The North Star of Halsoni is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by the Witch-King of Angmaruben with a fair hand, and notable for its smutty television, ubiquitous missile silos, and anti-smoking policies. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic population of 5.517 billion Halsonians live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

The large, corrupt, liberal, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Administration, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Angmaruben. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 67.8%.

The frighteningly efficient Halsonian economy, worth 700 trillion dollaridoos a year, is fairly diversified and dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Woodchip Exports, Retail, and Uranium Mining. Black market activity is rampant. Average income is an impressive 127,027 dollaridoos, but there is an enormous disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 693,158 per year while the poor average 11,923, a ratio of 58.1 to 1.

Bus shelters seem to be designed to let rain in, feeling like a winner comes at a price, economists have been named Invertebrates of the Year, and fan-made edits of old films have seen a sudden jump in quality. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Halsoni's national animal is the doggo, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Egocentric Rubenism.
