KAISERREICH is uniquely lucky in Nationstates to be one of the few regions with a fully functional regional economy. The system, established and created by Archduke Scheinenland, allows KAISERREICH’s citizens to participate in an advanced economy, with salaries, investment opportunities, purchase of goods and services, taxes, and a fully flagged stock market! Giving KR an almost unmatched edge over financial organizations in NS.

It is this exemplary development that not only allows imperial citizens to participate in its economy but also to prosper in it, be it through business cunning, wise investments, or hard work; many have shown themselves to be quite apt at mastering the financial system and building themselves sizeable fortunes in the process. Today, the team here at KAZ has been able to bring you a list of the three wealthiest citizens in the Empire, explaining what they do with their money, if they have any assets under management, how much they are worth, how they made their fortune, and just how much money they have.

4. Fürst Eskvor
Liquid worth: ϰ19,000
Assets under Management: (none)
Profile: Fürst Eskvor’s fortune is mostly the result of tight fiscal management and steady income from sizeable salaries in both the Reichswehr and the Vedul Temple; it is that of a frugal noble, cautiously accounting for every penny.

“For right now, it is a matter of status more or less alone; with the Empire's revitalization, I hold good faith that it will be a matter of more practical import in good time,” said Fürst Eskvor regarding how it felt to be one of the Empire’s wealthiest citizens.

3. Graf Vespeck von Welgard
Liquid worth: ϰ22,000
Assets under Management: (ϰ5,917)
Profile: CEO of KAZ and Owner of Club Kaiser. Von Welgard’s fortune is one formed from incredibly diverse sources, including salaries gained from numerous jobs in both the public and private sectors, and shrewd investments. The Graf’s fortune stands amongst the youngest in the empire, made in 17 months; it's largely spent on further investment projects, paying taxes, and “Expanding the prestige of House Vorbau”.

When interviewed about his wealth, von Welgard stated, “It's a fine little fortune, mostly made from the various different jobs, though honestly a good investment and bonus have always helped me; I’m always looking to sponsor art and cultural programs, if anyone is interested, they are more than free to contact me,” he replied while adjusting his requete beret instinctively.

2. Archduke Scheinenland
Liquid Worth: ϰ13,000
Assets under Management: (ϰ21,647)
Profile: Founder of the Empire’s financial system; owner and founder of Kaisys Systems, KMG, and Reichskonglomerat. His personal wealth was accumulated over three years, mostly from Reichskonglomerat dividends, artistic projects, and government salaries, and is mostly spent on taxes and investment projects.

The Richest men in KR (in order from left to right): Fürst Eskvor , Graf Vespeck,
Archduke Scheinenland and Herzog Free to Live

When interviewed by KAZ journalists regarding his wealth, the Archduke merely replied, “I'm just glad I'm not a little serf,” with the air of an aristocrat who truly has procured a sizeable fortune.

1. Herzog Free To Live
Liquid Worth: ϰ55,000
Assets under Management: None
Profile: Herzog Free to Live is a peculiar character amongst KAISERREICH’s wealthiest. Not only for his massive fortune but also for the manner in which he made it. Made since the time the Imperial Bank was created, Free to Live made his fortune not through the foundation of cornerstone businesses like Archduke Scheinenland or savvy private investments like Graf Vespeck von Welgard, but rather through years of hard work. Free to Live’s fortune mostly originates from the numerous jobs he’s held over the years and the tight fiscal management of his wealth. In recent months, however, the Herzog has shown far more philanthropic expenditure of his funds, providing tax subsidies to numerous provinces and rent to the Vedul Temple; his remaining expenses mostly consist of numerous taxes to the Imperial Government.

“I used to donate to the Temple and the College, but I don't see what they would do with the money at this point. If they have a project needing money, I am all ears,” commented Herzog Free to Live when asked what he does with his funds in his office, diligently filling reports and making accounts across ministries throughout our interview.

Whichever your opinions may be, it is undeniable that the Empire has built itself quite a wealthy upper class; the question we must all wonder now, however, is just what they will be doing with such large fortunes.

The Empire has a long tradition of political flux, reflected in the various power groups that have governed our society. We have weathered many changes, yet the Kaiser remains the sole symbol of stability and institutional permanence within our fascinating political landscape; thus, it is no secret that our political parties experience cycles of rise and decline within this ecosystem. Today, the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) finds itself in a state of brutal decline and almost total inactivity, warranting detailed analysis of its collapse

The CUP originated over a year ago, and its history is more closely linked to that of the Fatherland Zentrum Party (FZP) than it might appear (after all, the FZP was founded in response to the CUP to secure its niche among the citizenry). Although the two parties stood as competitors, they can both be seen as the result of lower-class nobles attempting to rally the citizenry toward greater political goals.

The CUP began as a vibrant group of citizens and nobles united by the goal of transforming the empire and giving a voice to new players on the political stage. To this end, they worked hard to draft statutes, regularly field candidates for the office of Tribune, and hold party conventions where everyone had a voice and a vote.

This system generated great ideas and garnered significant support both internally and externally; at its peak, the CUP held two seats in the Reichstag and counted an Imperial Minister among its ranks. This gave them an insider’s view of government politics and allowed them to sense the winds of change that were gathering. Consequently, they allied with the FZP to champion change; but the alliance proved to be rather short-lived.

If the CUP learned anything about imperial politics, it was that, since the very inception of the Eternal People, there has always been a dichotomy between those seeking to preserve the status quo and those wishing to transform our society. Thus, the existence of a force dedicated to preserving the old order inevitably gave rise to a new impulse for change, a movement that could be spearheaded by two new parties: the CUP and the FZP. Ultimately, the FZP won that contest, emerging as the standard-bearer of transformation.

For this reason, the CUP decided to take a break from politics to regroup. This was not a decision reached through a formal vote at an assembly, but rather the result of an intrinsic desire to rediscover the party's mission within the Empire. And so, the party of change, which had once boasted governors, ministers, and nobles, finally decided to rest.

In short, the CUP is currently in a period of relative inactivity, yet this is not the end—merely a temporary respite. Evidence of this lies in the fact that its members have not departed; they are simply gathering their strength. This party has witnessed a significant portion of the Empire's history and now observes the transformations we are undergoing on the path to a new political order. Although the CUP is currently in hibernation, this is a positive development, as it has entered into synergy with our glorious realm; like our eternal people, the CUP will follow the path of the phoenix and rise again.

The position of Citizen Tribune has had a mixed reputation through the modern history of Kaiserreich. The elected representative of the citizens in the Reichstag, the position has historically been neglected and fallen into general disinterest, yet little over a year ago the once abandoned position became the center stage for a political clash.

The nascent FZP and CUP battled one another in a series of highly competitive elections to secure the additional seat in the Reichstag and present themselves as the true voice for the citizenry within the Kaiserreich. These struggles would eventually result in a victory for the FZP as it successfully leveraged connections and mobilized enough voters to guarantee the party constant victories.

Concerned Riedmarkian voter's Reactions to the electoral tie.

Yet this almost year-long dominance of the position caused it quickly to fall into disinterest, as it became well known that the FZP candidate would always win; the Tribune position, which once dominated the headlines, gradually fell into irrelevancy. It wouldn’t be until last month that the position would once again cut itself to the fore of Imperial news with an electoral draw, as neither candidate Palractus of the FZP (incumbent) nor The New Texan Republic Of Dallas of the Independents were able to secure a majority, leaving the position empty until the next elections.

The reasons for the standstill result are numerous. Firstly is the general decline of the population of the citizenry, as months of inactivity have left it hollowed out from its usual size. The voter base has practically crashed in recent months, greatly limiting the FZP’s influence. Secondly, the FZP itself has substantially changed as a party since it first secured the position of tribune, as many of its members rose to nobility and the Reichstag, and the party’s remaining citizens fell into inactivity. The position of Tribune ceased to be a priority and grew neglected by the party. Thirdly, the FZP’s candidate was a particular character, which all the more reduced their chances of victory. Palractus, while originally eager to assume the position, quickly grew to despise it and, in fact, openly sought to abandon the position, yet never enough to resign. This would result in one infamous occasion of him being elected as a write-in candidate, making the Tribune position feel all the more like a joke.

Regardless, the FZP’s Chairman, Chancellor Vespek, used the result as an opportunity to launch the second FZP Congress, seeking to show that now more than ever the party must solidify its values in its new position. A development you can guarantee the team here at KAZ will be following closely.

BI-WEEKLY POLL REPORT

French mobilization was quick. In 20 minutes, men were stripped of their civilian clothes, bathed, uniformed and dispatched to their units. In Germany, food prices doubled and tripled. One food seller proclaimed, if you don't like my prices, I will sell my potatoes to the Russians.

Uncomprehending children demanded to know why their homes were being broken up. The German Red Cross urged people to give soldiers less chocolate because it was making them sick. German farmers were more upset about the requisitioning of their animals and wagons than by the conscription of their workers. Germany dispatched 7 armies westward. Austria sent half their soldiers to invade Serbia, the rest to confront the Russians in Polish Galicia. Russia sent 2 armies to invade East Prussia and 4 more against the Austrians. In England, There were serious supporters of putting ashore a landing force on Germany's Baltic coast, opening a second front. British troop trains chalked their sides with "Hang the Kaiser!"

Quote of the Day
A cheerful or peculiar phrase from the citizenry:

"Ok I'll cash out next hand, while I can still turn a profit."

-Ritter Pruxtria, during the Imperial Poker Night
he would not procede to cash out and would lose all of his profits
plus 28% of his original funds.

The Killing began in the east. On July 29, Austrian ships steamed down the Danube and began shelling Belgrade. Serbian soldiers detonated charges, wrecking the bridge to the Hapsburg Empire. The rubble fell on an Austrian gunboat drowning most of the sailors. Two Austrian armies shrouded in dust clouds, tramped across Bosnia towards the Drina River. Men were bemused by big buzzing flies filling the air until realizing they were hearing their first bullets whizzing by. Austrian troops ready to cross the river were hit by their own shells falling short. They had wet clothing from river crossings, heavy back packs, exhaustion from all day marching and rough scrub that tore clothes and skin to shreds. Serbian guerrillas waited until enemy troops had passed by before firing into their backs.

On August 17, troops were fired on from a corn field. Austrian patrols sent to investigate returned with 63 prisoners. An hour later only a mass grave was visible. They were bayoneted to death so that gunshots would not upset their own soldiers. Austrian troops were fired on from rooftops. An Austrian officer ordered 14 Serbs to be hanged. The Condemned Serbs had to dig their own graves. They were then bayoneted 5 at a time. Earth was heaped on the victims while some were still living. 3,500 civilians were killed by the Austrians during the first 2 weeks of August. On August 18, the Serbs made a brisk withdrawal, then turned to deliver a hail of fire from a prepared fieldwork. One Serb called out in German, "Officers step forward!" One officer reflexively obeyed and was shot.

Austrian cavalry found themselves facing machine-guns who annihilated two squadrons, careless enough to charge them. The battle of Mount Cer was a Serbian triumph. Austria suffered 28,000 casualties. It was the first victory of the war by the Entente. On the 20th, the Hapsburg army facing Serbia on the Hungarian border, began to leave for Galicia. Soon the remaining Austrian columns in Serbia fell back all the way to Austria. They left their wounded soldiers and dying horses. The Serbs had lost 16,000, the Austrians more than twice as many. By the evening of August 24, no Austrian remained on Serbian soil. The Hapsburg Empire, served by incompetent officers and unwilling soldiers had inflicted humiliation on itself. Only slowly did the leaders of Serbia and Austria come to understand that they were locked in a battle that imposed disaster upon both.

In years past, WA discussion were common and debate over the merits of individual issues took place here on the Regional Message Board. This hasn't happened in a long time and until your post we were unaware there was still interest in delegate voting on issues. Currently, Ioavollr votes in step with the majority of Scandinavia's voting base on any particular issue if we catch it in time, but in general this is rare. If there is renewed interest in debate or voting on WA issues please feel to post opinions here or to send a telegram to Ioavollr directly. If you would like us to consistently vote in step with the Scandinavian majority instead, let us know that as well.

♔♕

Written by Vespeck
