Huge crash at the start of the British GP, the race is red-flagged just now. All drivers appear to be OK, but Zhou Guanyu and Alex Albon are headed to hospital for observation. Russel is OK, but his car was left stranded and he is out of the race.

EDIT: Confirmed - all drivers are OK.

So: a very eventful race, lots of good match-ups all down the field. Apart from the 3 who were out from the initial crash there were a further 3 retirments, to leave only 14 finishers. Sainz got his first GP win, Hamilton was on the podium at his home race, LeClerc regained points over Verstappen (but fewer than he would have hoped), and Mick Schumacher got his first points.

1 Sainz (Ferrari) 25
2 Perez (Red Bul) 18
3 Hamilton (Mercedes) 16 (incl 1 for fastest lap)
4 Leclerc (Ferrari) 12
5 Alonso (Alpine) 10
6 Norris (McLaren) 8
7 Verstappen (Red Bull) 6
8 Schumacher (Haas) 4
9 Vettel (Aston Martin) 2
10 Magnussen (Haas) 1

11 Stroll (Aston Martin) 0
12 Latifi (Williams) 0
13 Ricciardo (McLaren) 0
14 Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) 0

Gasly
Bottas

The origins are a little obscure, but I think it developed from WTC (welcome to Canada). Likewise we have woobactac for returnees. Just a local tradition.

Papa thinks since ‘05?

It might be even earlier, I think it was already a thing when I I got here in '04.

Glad that Zhou is alright after that horrific crash. Haven’t seen a car barrel roll/flip over barriers into a fence for a long time. No one can complain about the Halo anymore. It literally saved two lives on Sunday.

So glad that Hamilton made it onto the podium. I was being greedy in hoping for more than third but happy with third. Couple that with Verstappen’s frustrating day and I was down right elated.

Helluva race by so many drivers and easily the most entertaining race of the season.

IIRC either Bweezystan or Daemon started "woobactac"

I'm loving the new flag choice, since I'm in a cabin on the beach right now! It's going to be a bonfire and Fireball cinnamon whiskey night! 🥃

Official lyrics of "O Canada"
English version
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

French version
Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!

Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!

Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
