The Republic of Amabilis is a titanic, cultured nation, ruled by Pavel Rutkovsky with an even hand, and renowned for its infamous sell-swords, pith helmet sales, and devotion to social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, humorless, devout population of 14.01 billion Amabilisians are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed, including voting. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The large, corrupt, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Law & Order, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Tondo. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 91.3%.

The frighteningly efficient Amabilisian economy, worth a remarkable 3,938 trillion Pesos a year, is fairly diversified and mostly comprised of black market activity, especially in Uranium Mining, Woodchip Exports, Retail, and Information Technology. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an amazing 281,131 Pesos, with the richest citizens earning 8.1 times as much as the poorest.

Gay couples who hold hands are forced into unbreakable bonds, descriptions of properties as "a stone's throw from the city centre" require a trebuchet to be true, doctors are encouraged to 'pull the plug' any time the government has a budget crisis, and one complaint of Amabilis's new periodic table is it's easy to confuse fearlessleaderium with gloriousleaderium. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Amabilis's national animal is the Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to toxic air pollution, and its national religion is Nashrelig.

Amabilis is ranked 40,572^nd in the world and 708^th in The East Pacific for Most Cultured, scoring 74 on the Snufflebottom-Wiggendum Pentatonic Scale.
