The Union of People's Republics of Great Acaris

A Father of the Revolution Falls
26th of Highwinter, 1848
Today is a dark day in Acarisian history. For the second time now, one of the men that led the Acarisian Revolution has perished as the result of a counterrevolutionary plot. In the early hours of the 24th of Highwinter, Krazymir Molentiç, People’s Commissar for the National Economy, and a driving force within the Acarisian government since 1818, under both the Grand Principality and the CSPA, died from wounds sustained in the 18th of Summersend Bombing, surrounded by friends and family, with Chairman Mstizinzar himself being present. Molentiç wasn’t fully lucid at the time of his death, but before he fully slipped away, he was able to communicate his wishes that his seat on the People’s Commissariat should be filled by a candidate chosen by the people, instead of by party factionalism. Twenty minutes after making his wishes known, Krazymir Molentiç passed away. He leaves behind a brother and two sisters.

Immediately after Molentiç’s death, in accordance with the dying wishes of one of his closest friends, Chairman Mstizinzar called emergency snap elections to fill the position of People’s Commissar for the National Economy. Two days later, the vote took place, seeing a much smaller turnout than the ‘46 General Elections, owing to the rushed nature of the proceedings. As a result, the final count was completed much faster, and by the end of the day, the clear victor could be declared. This victor would be Akhinta Keitann, the widow of Iyozhar Keitann, the man that arguably created Acaris as it exists now, who leveraged her relationship with the near-mythical first Chairman, along with her not insignificant talent for economic planning, to secure a solid majority. Some have raised concerns about possible nepotism, but as Akhinta Keitann *was* a member of the People’s Commissariat for the National Economy who had worked closely with both Molentiç and Chairman Mstizinzar on all three Five Year Plans, there are few that can dispute the qualifications that ultimately secured her the office.

Centrist Party Leaves Coalition, Enters Opposition
31 Veilrule, 1848

After weeks of meeting with its leadership and the leadership of the rest of the current ruling coalition, the Centrist Party has decided to part ways with the Aidian Democrats and Reformist Party, resulting in a complete collapse of the right-wing coalition that has governed the nation since 1840. After the mess that was the budget proposal and the reluctance of the Reformist Party's leadership to support their proposal, many are not surprised of the Centrist Party's decision.

"The right-wing coalition has been nothing but disrespectful towards our cause, and our party has decided that we cannot work with them any longer."
- Centrist Senator Suriccius Deniand, who made the announcement to the Senate.

The centrist party has also made the decision to remove Rolando Augusta as their party leader. Without the support of the majority coalition, many do not expect the current government to survive a vote of no confidence. The Centrist Party has already called for one, and it is currently in the process of getting it to the Senate Floor.

The Second Republic of Greater Aidia

Maiden Flight of the StellaAtra Wanderer
18 Highsummer, 1949

The plane was a glorious sight to behold. It was sleek, modern, and most importantly, fast. Divo, the designer of the jet craft (along with a number of other jet-powered planes made by the company), held his head high as the prototype sat on the runway. This was going to be a momentous occasion.

"Tell them to go ahead." he said, watching the plane from the air traffic control tower. The man he stood next to copied his words into his microphone, and the pilot responded with a simple "copy that".

What followed was the biggest roar from an aircraft Divo had ever heard. He had heard the prototype start its engines before, but the team waited until today to test its ability to take off and land, so the engines were never taken to full power. They howled, pushing the grass behind the runway flat. After that, the aircraft lurched forward and picked up speed. This was it. This was the proving of Divo's newest concept.

The prototype lifted itself up gracefully off the pavement, its engines still screaming from the power the released. The aircraft grew further and further away, holding steady as it departed from StellaAtra's own Proving-grounds airport. Eventually, it banked, and the cheering group inside the tower couldn't do anything but watch the radar blip that represented the machine. This airport was one of the few in the world that included the technology.

The pilot and Divo's personal friend, Velio, took it out to the countryside, where he flew it close enough to the ground where he's be able to make an emergency landing if needed. But it wasn't. Eventually, he circled back, banking towards the airport and soaring it through the air until it reached the familiar runway. With a thud, he landed the craft. The flight that was so important was over.

After the flight had ended, Divo greeted his friend with a grin a kilometer wide. They had done it. After so long sitting in the research office, the world's first jetliner had just made its way into the sky and back again. Both pilot and engineer were as excited as they could be. They knew it would be years before the plane made it to market, but that didn't deter them. This time, unlike the Skybreaker and Jumper before, they hoped the plane would be a success.

Velio pulled aside his friend for a few seconds as the crowd of engineers and assistants celebrated. "You know, it kind-of wanders when you fly it," he told Divo.
His friend looked over at him. "Don't worry, I'll fix that eventually when we take more data from the flights."
"So... what are you going to call this one?"
Divo thought for a few moments before turning to face the aircraft. "Well you say it wanders. So, I'll call it the Wanderer."

The Union of People's Republics of Great Acaris

Explosions Rock the Union, an Old Enemy Returns
4th of Veilsend, 1849
A little under two years ago, a routine meeting of the Supreme Council, intended to showcase the recently finalized Third Five Year Plan, was rudely interrupted by the detonation of a bomb in an adjacent room. The blast and the ensuing fire would take a number of lives, most prominent of which being People’s Commissar for the National Economy Krazymir Molentiç, who survived the bombing itself but not the injuries he sustained during it. The Grand Palace was also badly damaged, with nearly half of the complex requiring extensive repairs.

The emergency measures put in place after the bombing seemingly served their intended purpose, as no more incidents occurred, and after a full month of quiet, they were ended. Recent events have proven that to have been a mistake. On the morning of the Fourth of Veilsend, all across Acaris, bombs exploded either within or extremely close to government buildings. The docks in Teryminovzrydurm were hit with multiple explosions, as was the CSPA Party Headquarters in Keitannzrydurm. Among the less major targets were military bases, administrative offices, and police and fire stations. An attempt was made to also bomb the People’s Academy of Naval Warfare, but this attempt failed owing to the presence of Red Army men that had been assigned to guard the currently empty building. A pair of intruders were caught sneaking in through a back window, with one of them carrying a large bag over his shoulder. Within this bag was an obviously improvised explosive, along with a copy of the architectural schematics of the Academy.

Interrogation of the captured would-be bombers revealed little, as neither knew much that could be extracted from them, but one vital piece of information *was* uncovered. This attempt was indeed connected to the other, much more successful bombings, and the culprits admitted to being members of the ‘New Alliance to Save Acaris’, an apparent successor to the counterrevolutionary group that carried out the assassination of Chairman Keitann. Both men were young mine workers from the Acarisian south, and would be given a provisional sentence of ten years hard labor with an additional 5 years of mandatory political education, with the official sentencing being delayed until the conclusion of the overall investigation.

In a statement given an hour after the last bomb went off, Chairman Mstizinzar vowed to “see every last counter-revolutionary terrorist dragged from their hiding places into the unforgiving light of the people’s justice” and to “not rest for even a single moment until all internal enemies of the Revolution have been defeated”. At the end of his statement, he would reveal the existence of the People’s Commissariat for the Safety of the Revolution, an internal branch of the People’s Commissariat for the Interior, devoted to the safeguarding of the Acarisian Revolution against covert threats, both external and internal, and publicly tasked the PCSR with bringing the New Alliance to Save Acaris to justice.

The Union of People's Republics of Great Acaris

The Empowering of the Supreme Council
6th of Highwinter, 1850
The nation awoke to momentous news: Acaris had gained a second executive office. After months of gradual and incredibly secretive planning, Chairman Mstizinzar has enacted the REVOLUTIONARY EXECUTIVE DECENTRALIZATION ACT. The REDA empowers the Supreme Council of the Union of People’s Republics of Acaris from a mere advisory body into a proper executive body, with the power to draft and enact legislation with only minimal oversight from the Chairman. In addition, the Supreme Council, which is itself made up of 500 representatives of the various councils that comprise every level of Acarisian society, is to elect one of their own to the newly established office of ‘Premier of the Supreme Council’. The office of Premier is close in power to the Chairmanship of the CSPA, with only the mass party line and foreign affairs being left entirely under the Chairman’s control. The Premier is still subordinate to the Chairman, but does possess the authority to trigger a vote of no confidence in the Chairman should the Chairman overstep or prove incompetent. Furthermore, should the Chairman be killed or otherwise rendered unable to hold office, the Premier is to assume the position of Chairman for the duration of the previous Chairman’s term. If the Chairman is merely incapacitated, the Premier is to assume the responsibilities of the Chairman for the duration of the incapacity. The election of the Premier is to take place every two years, and it is prohibited to hold the office of Premier for more than two consecutive terms. The members of the Supreme Council itself are to be elected by the councils they represent every four years, as opposed to being elected for life, as was done before the REDA.

The Supreme Council was informed of this act late in 1849, and the first election for the Premiership of the Supreme Council held an hour before the public announcement of the REDA. The vote was conducted via a show of hands. The list of candidates on offer was surprisingly short, with the dominant Radical Faction declining to contest the election, instead endorsing the Progressive Radical candidate, Liezha Mstironakh. The Internationalists, Councilists, and Ultraradicals all offered their own candidates, but the supermajority held by the Radical faction was impossible to overcome. Liezha Mstironakh was sworn into the office of Premier by Chairman Mstizinzar approximately forty minutes after the announcement of the enactment of the REDA, before giving a short speech in which she promised to do all she could to continue to empower the working women of Acaris, and to work towards the realization of the ideals of the Acarisian Revolution.
