The National Meritocratic State of New Fildea is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Michael Hartz with an even hand, and remarkable for its museums and concert halls, complete lack of prisons, and punitive income tax rates. The hard-nosed, devout population of 1.34 billion Neofildeans are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Industry, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Newbein. The average income tax rate is 69.8%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Neofildean economy, worth 218 trillion mances a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Tourism. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an impressive 162,949 mances, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The government's new "quiet competence" initiative has supporters and detractors alike reeling in confusion, in life full of care there is no time to stop and stare, Michael Hartz's speeches are beloved by insomniacs, and the government regularly publishes lengthy reports on its own excessive recordkeeping. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Fildea's national animal is the Blonde Horse, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Christianism.

New Fildea is ranked 18,869^th in the world and 30^th in Fifth Empire for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring 3,320.64 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
