The Federation of Trialstan is a tiny, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service and restrictive gun laws. The compassionate, hard-working population of 10 million Trialstanians are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The relatively small, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 18.7%.

The Trialstanian economy, worth 539 billion Trians a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Door-to-door Insurance Sales industry, with major contributions from Pizza Delivery, Basket Weaving, and Arms Manufacturing. A large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, Harry Potter books are banned, organ donation is compulsory, and military equipment stores have a tendency to go up in flames. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, despite the fact that it is difficult to make it through a day without breaking one of the country's many laws. Trialstan's national animal is the Mule, which can occasionally be seen sifting through garbage in the nation's cities.
