The People's Isles of Colil is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its national health service, compulsory military service, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, cynical, humorless population of 1.985 billion Colish are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Berrypool. The average income tax rate is 90.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Colish economy, worth 303 trillion acts of aid a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, fairly diversified black market in Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Uranium Mining. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 153,078 acts of aid, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

50% of adverts on children's television are for clothes made of cotton wool, sales of trenchcoats are on the rise, the government has ordered a moratorium on referenda, and Colish police have to pay out of their own pockets for bulletproof vests. Crime is totally unknown. Colil's national animal is the doll, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Colish Thought.

Colil is ranked 24,548^th in the world and 148^th in The Leftist Assembly for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 278.7 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
