Woah boy, I got a map to upload without color terrorism and I even somehow got it to display on the region page and it has labels! Unfortunately, any labels I add that don't reference active nations get removed, so those of us who are dead at the moment (RIP) or not in the region, like Kraven or the Kylaris, don't get names on the map.

It also doesn't reflect the true New Aldar geography yet of course, but that can be amended later.

EMPEROR MING ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF 'NEW STANDARD ARMY'

In an announcement that affirms the Jilang Emperor's alignment with the 'Five Principles for National Advancement' espoused by his father the late Emperor Dengmu, the Hewn Throne today revealed plans for the standing up of a new armed service to be called the New Standard Army. Initially to be comprised of volunteers from the Hollarum Municipal Militia and Mounted Police, the new service will be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Guards and the intention is for the NSA to eventually assume the roles and responsibilities of the Imperial Armed Forces. The legacy force is planned to be stood down in line with the third of Dengmu's Five Points, though the palace did not provide a specific timetable for the replacement of the existing armed services. This marks only the third of Dengmu's Five Points to have made the leap to actual imperial policy, following the adoption of the Universal Basic Income during the reign of the late emperor and the abolition of slavery at the end of the 2011-13 war.

A spokesperson for the palace answered questions following the announcement, revealing that two brigades of the New Standard Army have already been organized and equipped and are undergoing evaluation. Eventually, it was revealed, a system of universal conscription will fill the ranks of the NSA though the palace did make clear that service in the Army will not be the only means by which subjects may fulfil this conscription requirement, which will also direct some to the civilian bureaucracy or other national service efforts. The plan to expand the force to include not only ground forces but the aerospace and naval dimensions of the current Imperial Armed Forces were touched upon only in passing, though shipyards in Shagal and Daram are reportedly already cutting steel on a number of new warships intended for the NSA naval arm.

Emperor Ming's policy of deliberate retreat from international commitments and overseas operations has given rise to speculation that the new army and it's supporting forces will be much more defensive in nature than the Imperial Armed Forces of today. Furthermore, the NSA being comprised of free subjects and under the authority of the Ten Ministries is an noteworthy change from the IAF which is drawn from the citizens of the compound system and operates under the discretion of the Five Dignities. Increased oversight, responsiveness and transparency is expected to be the result of the change, and has drawn positive reactions from many in the autonomous cities. Others question the motives for the dramatic shift in imperial defense policy, asking whether now is the time for such a move. The palace made efforts to assuage these fears, stating that there are no immediate plans to change the posture or composition of the IAF.
