It does not command obedience. It does not possess some secret jurisdiction over my thoughts, my patience, or my dignity. And yet you have presented it as though saying “Yellow” were somehow sufficient to end the discussion.

It is not.

You do not get to stroll into a conversation, drop one adjective—or noun, depending on your intention—and expect everyone else to bow before the enormous conceptual majesty of your vocabulary. “Yellow” is not an argument. It is not evidence. It is not a thesis. It is not even particularly intimidating.

It is yellow.

And since you apparently insist on making this a confrontation, let me be perfectly clear: I refuse to be cowed by a color.

You might imagine that yellow carries some kind of psychological weight. Perhaps you expect me to associate it with warning signs, caution tape, traffic lights, lemons, jaundice, cowardice, school buses, old photographs, or whatever symbolic baggage you have decided to attach to it. Perhaps you think that by saying the word with sufficient confidence, you can make it mean whatever you want.

You cannot.

Words acquire meaning through context, intention, convention, and use. You have provided none of those. You simply said yellow. Shame.
