The compassionate, democratic population of 18.432 billion pretty young things are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded morass — juggles the competing demands of Education, Environment, and Healthcare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Bowie. The average income tax rate is 95.5%.

The frighteningly efficient PYTian economy, worth a remarkable 2,074 trillion magnetic tapes a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is highly specialized, is mostly made up of the Book Publishing industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology and Basket Weaving. Average income is an impressive 112,559 magnetic tapes, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Students are wary of colorfully decorated new teachers with names like Professor Pipsqueak, police escort anti-abortion activists to free speech cages if they try to express their views, bemused citizens are encouraged to sing foreign-language hymns of religions they have never heard of, and authorities are looking for a stool pigeon to rat out who is stealing food from pigeon toilets. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. PYT's national animal is the Mercenary Guerilla Hamster, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
