The United States of Lightboard is a mammoth, cultured nation, notable for its state-planned economy, ban on automobiles, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, democratic, devout population of 8.068 billion Lightboardians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The enormous, liberal, socially-minded, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Spirituality, and Education. The average income tax rate is 67.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The large but stagnant Lightboardian economy, worth 162 trillion love beads a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector is led by the Pizza Delivery industry, with major contributions from Soda Sales, Cheese Exports, and Basket Weaving. Average income is 20,185 love beads, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Every school is receiving a brand new eraser, families are left homeless as entire suburbs are bulldozed on the whim of tribal chiefs, consumption of cat memes has skyrocketed, and convicts released after being found "wrongfully imprisoned" are surprisingly chill about the whole thing. Crime is totally unknown. Lightboard's national animal is the vegan tiger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
