The LinkTibetan Empire was a powerful empire that ruled the entire Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas from 618 to 842. Under the rule of the founder Songtsen Gampo and his successors, the empire expanded beyond the Tibetan homeland and became a regional power in Central and East Asia during its existence. The empire's cultural legacy lives on to the present day, notably the introduction and spread of Tibetan Buddhism, and the creation of the Tibetan script.
