The Eclectic Republic of Difinbelk

I don’t think I brought up my assumption there’d be a negative correlation between patriotism and pacifism (bc anti-war measures tend to increase pacifism and tank patriotism (in Difinbelk’s experience)), but I found Siliam randomly, and they’re a young nation but they might disprove that theory longterm if their stats (high patriotism and pacifism) stay where they are.

No rule is without exceptions (including this one).

If I had a nickle for every time I wrote an organic chemistry midterm and got a flat tire within the hour, I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

That is a bizarre correlation indeed.

I've had three flat tires in my life. All three happened within the same year, to the same wheel (and nothing to do with that wheel either - unrelated physical impacts caused by various things). None in the decade of driving before that, nor in the decade and a half since then.

Look no further than Valentine Z! But then again, that nation has a tendency to throw logic out the window.

Speaking of, if you're really interested, I'm sure he'd be willing to provide a graph plotting nations based on pacifism and patriotism on an x/y axis (if he hasn't somewhere already). ;)

I think you are more of thinking of is Nationalism. Which granted patriotism and nationalism are kinda the same but with a difference. And pacifism, we all should know what that means. simple terms means it doesn't like war. Which you can have patriotism and pacifism. But its really hard to impossible to have nationalism and pacifism. Patriotism means one pride of your nation, but can have improvement. Nationalism is more like your nation does no wrong and is better then other nations.

Oh wow, it's started snowing here. Where was all that snow during the winter? Oh yeah, that's right. Oh well, hopefully the snow can continue on for a while or so

Edit: also, it seems that I've reached a population of 1 billion again 🥳

Congrats on 1 billion.

We had snow yesterday too, and are due for another cold day today. It's 2 (centigrade) just now.

Where I am, we're getting snow overnight and then +15 Celsius temperatures around noon. Damn Rockies, making the seasons nonsensical.

Gorthias wrote:Nationalism/pacifism/patriotism

I know this started out as a discussion of mechanics, but I feel like this is pretty applicable to real world stuff. I agree with your definitions, though I'd say it's possible to have a country think they're the best without invading others. That's more imperialism than nationalism in my opinion, though they are no doubt linked.

I'm personally not a fan of nationalism or patriotism. I have no issue with people being proud of where they live when they do something worthy of pride, but patriotism as an ideology often turns into "well, we're doing pretty well for ourselves, so we don't need to worry about minor issues". As a huge fan of continuous self-improvement, this thinking is pretty toxic. There's also the idea of serving your country that's wrapped up into patriotism, but once again, while there is good in public service, it can turn into a sentiment that you owe your country because you exist in it. There are positive attributes to patriotism, but I don't think they work well as an ideological tenant. You should be proud of your country because they are doing good, and do public service (possibly military as well) as a way to do good yourself, not because a country is owed your pride and service.

Naturally, if I'm not a fan of patriotism, I'm not going to have positive sentiments towards nationalism. As Gorthias has pointed out, it's patriotism injected with the idea that your country is better than others, carrying all the previous issues over (in my opinion), as well as creating new issues. Instead of drawing lines in the sand and trying to show off to other nations, we should be working to improve the world as a whole. There are a lot of issues that can't be solved without such cooperation, the most clear among them being climate change, but I'd extend it to slavery, poverty, political unrest, and starvation as well. It's objectively bad that children are starving, I don't care what country they're in. If we can put an end to poverty, I'd argue we have an obligation to do so, which nationalism works against.

On a lighter note, there's an event starting in just over 6 hours. It looks like it'll be pretty fun, and I'm excited to see how they go about it. Unless it's just cards again. We really don't need more cards.

Where I live, it's essentially been snowing on and off all day. One minute, it's like a blizzard and the next there's no precipitation to be seen. Hail even made a cameo at one point.

Your guess is as good as any at this point. The way it's worded, I'd guess either another card-esque event where it's region collectibles instead of nation card packs or a commentary on how a lot of stuff in museums in ex-colonial powers are just stolen artifacts. Whatever it is, I really hope it doesn't include an economy (though let's be real, it definitely is).

Ironically, I'm going to an art exhibit tonight, so I'm going to be late for the virtual ?art exhibition?, so hopefully whatever it is doesn't advantage people who are online in the first minute as Z-Day, N-Day, and a lot of the previous April Fools events do.

It's working! I have no freaking clue what is going on but I'm excited for it!

Quick, everyone stash shipping containers! Or something!

(Edit: I'm so confused, why would I want to destroy something or give it to another nation >__>)

Edit2: OK Sticky Lables if you have them on your nation you can stash stuff faster. Similarly I believe inspector uniforms let you inspect faster. xD
(I imagine shipping containers, which in hindsight I probably oughtn't have stashed right away, let you transfer goods faster)

Edit3: Oh that's why. You want to ship goods to other nations because otherwise you'll get seized by inspectors.
*Puppet printer go brrrr*

Edit4: OK Fluffy kittens distract inspectors... L O L

Edit5: So actually, even though shipping containers is great, there's a reason the activity log exists; you can see where goods are being taken to... FASCINATING!

Edit6: Yeah... there's a "BREAKING NEWS" thing at the top of the screen that gives hints as to what everything does. Apparently gold boullion is the only real "currency" whereas humanitarian potatoes are urged to be distributed as much as possible... huh

Edit7: OK patriotic flags also help ward off inspectors. interesting.

Edit8: Wow I'm dumb each item literally has a description of what the do. hgn

Edit9: Wait. Can't you just... join with a whole bunch of alts and stash your region endlessly without inspecting? .-.

Edit10: Wow you can LOL. I'm interested though... it seems like tractor parts can basically be used so that if someone is looking for gas centrifuges, they take those by mistake. It also seems like you can use gas centrifuges with uranium for something... I'm really curious what .-. (Btw you can see item descriptions by going to the "stashes" tab and finding which regions have the best of any sorted item.)
