The Republic of Solstein is a small, orderly nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service and absence of drug laws. The compassionate, cynical population of 29 million Solsteinians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defense, and Administration. The average income tax rate is 40.8%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Solsteinian economy, worth 1.16 trillion Woofs a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Cheese Exports, Retail, and Arms Manufacturing. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 39,846 Woofs, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Escaped birthday balloons are torpedoed out of the sky, every citizen sounds like a television news anchor, children who refuse to share their crayons are arrested, and eerie glow-in-the-dark cornfields give farmlands an uncanny appearance. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Solstein's national animal is the Corgi, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Solstein is ranked 83,730^th in the world and 106^th in Horizon for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 114.46 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
