The Medievel Mountainous Madness of Shevei is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Lord Gannon with an iron fist, and notable for its closed borders, multi-spousal wedding ceremonies, and complete lack of prisons. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 2.152 billion Sheveians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The large, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Spirituality, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Mortghon'rey. The average income tax rate is 47.5%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The strong Sheveian economy, worth 141 trillion ömtmarks a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is an enormous, deeply entrenched, quite specialized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Beef-Based Agriculture, Uranium Mining, and Book Publishing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 65,606 ömtmarks, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Rupert Bear is considered to be the most risqué TV programme in Shevei, there's more than one way to skin a potato, blind dates tend to result in bruised shins, and children are raised bilingual from an early age. Crime is a problem, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Shevei's national animal is the bear, which can occasionally be seen sifting through garbage in the nation's cities, and its national religion is Yamhaism.
