The Confederacy of Brailt is a large, cultured nation, notable for its state-planned economy, enforced nudity, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, cynical, devout population of 132 million Brailtians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The enormous, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Administration. The average income tax rate is 75.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but sluggish Brailtian economy, worth 3.96 trillion defs a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, highly specialized black market in Trout Farming, Basket Weaving, Arms Manufacturing, and Beef-Based Agriculture. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 30,001 defs, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The sound of wooden legs echo throughout Brailt after the recent introduction of the Foot Tax, sometimes a single pallbearer is all you need, most barbers are also surgeons, and international trade can be a pain to deal with. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Brailt's national animal is the Komodo dragon, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
