Major Threat to Kazimir Line as Kyzyl Rises in Rebellion!

Just days after Andrei Bodin's 50,000-strong Voluntary Patriotic Legion was placed in command of the southern sector of the Kazimir Line, the Tuvan capital of Kyzyl has risen in open rebellion, threatening the integrity not just of the Kyzyl Sector, but of the whole Tsarist defensive. Kyzyl, a city with about 110,000 inhabitants, is only about 15% ethnically Russian, with nearly all of the remainder of the population belonging to the Tuvan ethnic group. Tuvans are a Turkic people who have historically been livestock-herding nomads with strong cultural ties to Central Asia. They have long practiced Buddhism, quite apart from the Orthodox majority in Lucija. Outside Kyzyl, settlements in Tuva Province have few if any Russian inhabitants and, in general, Tuvans use their original language as their first language. Like many ethnic and religious minorities in Lucija, the Tuvans had been marginalized by decades of policies aimed at cultural Russification, and effectively shut out of the political process by the centralization of law and justice decision-making in Saint Petersburg. Animosity has long built against the Winter Palace, which is nearly 2,500 miles away from Tuva.

The rebellion began in the early hours of the morning with a raid on the arsenal of the 55th Mountain Motor Rifle Brigade. The brigade, which is almost exclusively comprised of ethnic Tuvan conscripts, laid down their arms, with soldiers either ripping off their Tsarist uniforms or joining the rebels outright. Tuvan rebels quickly emptied the site of armored personnel carriers, light self-propelled guns, mortars, UAVs, and over 30 all-terrain infantry mobility vehicles. Soon after, mutinous Tuvan soldiers were able to enter Kyzyl Air Base and sabotage its main gate, allowing rebels to flow in and quickly overwhelm the Air Force servicemen asleep in their barracks. Mi-8 attack helicopters and An-26 transport aircraft are reported to have been seized. Police and National Guard units have made no effort to stop the rebels, and in some cases it appears false police broadcasts were used to distract Tsarist units and lead them away from key sites like the city's radio station, town hall, and main bridge across the Yenisey River, all of which were seized. The city of Kyzyl has effectively fallen into the hands of the Tuvan rebels.

The entire motion appears to have been intricately planned with the strong support of the local population, tens of thousands of whom have now taken up arms to defend their city. The Tuvan leader is a young, avowedly Communist medical student at the local university, Sayana Troyakova. She is named after the picturesque Sayan Mountains in the east of Tuva, where she grew up in a family which raised sheep. Just 23, Troyakova worked quickly to gather supporters to proclaim the 'Tuvan People's Republic', and broadcast her message outside the city.

In a radio broadcast around noon, Troyakova pledged absolute loyalty to the Free Lucijan Government, inviting General Baryshnikov to join up with her forces in Kyzyl, where he would enjoy 'a hero's welcome'. Subsequent broadcasts were directed at Tsarist volunteers spread out in the environs of the city, encouraging them to abandon their post and join the will of the people. Thousands of Tuvan villagers, some riding horses and reindeer, have begun streaming into Kyzyl to take up the call, carrying whatever weapons they could muster together. Tsarist flags have been torn down or have had their Romanov insignia crudely cut out, so that only the three horizontal bars of black, gold, and white remain.

Like most of the city's defenders, Bodin's legion is encamped to the northeast of Kyzyl, where they are in a better position to guard the city's approaches from advancing FLG regulars under General Baryshnikov. Consisting mainly of Cybusian and ethnic Russian volunteers, they have not been affected by the same attrition of local units. However, the small coterie of half a dozen JSR functionaries who had been sent to Kyzyl were reportedly captured at the radio station, and are being held in a secret location as hostages. Troyakova has signalled that she means no harm to Bodin or his men, and wants to minimize bloodshed as much as possible. Anticipating a quick movement south by Baryshnikov's veteran forces, she has demanded that Bodin pull his forces entirely out of Tuva, for which she can ensure their safe passage and the release of the JSR employees.

People's Volunteer Army units have begun meeting at nighttime in secret, discussing plans for a major mutiny against their commanders in Orson despite General Baryshnikov's support for the withdrawal. The Orsonian volunteers believe that Baryshnikov is concerned about their loyalty to the cause, and that a demonstration of their loyalty and courage is necessary to change the general's mind.

The volunteers are planning their own operation to aid the newly established Tuvan People's Republic and engage the Voluntary Patriotic Legion in direct combat.

Bodin has not issued a direct response. What he has done is take extra steps to fortify his encampments, establish choke points and minefields, and to send reconnaissance drones to get a lay of the land now that the locals have rebelled. Bodin’s men and women received several months of Imperial Army training before departure, though many are already veterans, and are ideologically dependable. They are equipped with the best equipment money can buy.

The Foundation of Corsahnim

Since the days of Father Capet, the nation of Corsahnim (though not being called that up until the year 2022) was founded on Christian principles. Because Orson was seen as a Godless nation, and to a certain degree still IS considered Godless even by Galactic Corsahn standards, they were seen not as adversaries but tools of THE adversary. Regardless of this, however, Cape Town acquiesced to the wishes of Orson by not evangelizing and proselytizing inside Orsonian territory.

This, however, did not stop the aspiring nation from spreading the message of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, throughout the world through its ports. All who listed to knowledgeable Captains to preachers along the shore, all who listened to the Capetonian Message would hear a message of love, kindness and compassion that was unseen in the world up until then. There was no judgement from Capetonians, only kindness and peace and acceptance, even to non-believers and those of different religious backgrounds. This was the foundation of Cape Town, and would continue to be the foundation of Corsahnim for years to come.

Father Jackson Corsahnim would use this style of unconditional love in his leadership, forgiving mistakes all across the board and even outright forgiving the East Timorese resistance cells for their misdeeds, something not many Corsahns agreed with. Even as he forgave, though, he still authorized military actions in order to save his people. He needed to, otherwise the horrors he and his people went through would be repeated once more.

Johnathan Corsahnim, while learning from his father, would later neglect his Christian heritage and build the nation on that of his pride. He still preached love and acceptance as his style of leadership, but it became clear that as soon as he took his birthright as heir to the Corsahn nation, forgiveness would not be part of his values. This is evident in the way he treated Forsay Kendrack for his role in creating the crisis called the First Insurrection - forsaking his friend in the name of protecting 'his nation.' He later came to regret the decision, of course, but by the time he learned forgiveness, he was captured by the Order of the Raven and forcefully converted to Mercerism via Mesmerization, killing all notion of Christian values and, eventually, love in the man's own heart.

This left Andreas Tirnanius, the last remaining sane and alive man of the Triumvirate, to do what he termed as 'pulling a Moses out of his hat,' starting a Rebellion that deposed John and installed democracy. This democracy was sadly perverted by the Library, ran by the deceptive Jaune Le'forge, who intended to prepare the entire Corsahn Arm for mass ritualistic sacrifice toward his foreign god, the King in Yellow. The Orsonians eventually delivered Corsahnim from evil, and John - resurrected from the dead via cloning - was meant to take leadership. This, however, didn't happen.

John was imprisoned, same as Andreas Tirmanius, for telling the truth to the Orsonians - that Corsahnim was a Corsahn nation, not an Orsonian one. The Orsonians, thankfully, got the message, but not before interfering with the truth by spreading a nanite plague that simultaneously ruined John and Andreas' reputations and killing massive amounts of people implanted with an MAU - specifically, those implanted with the MAU Mark II, which was more common than the newer Mark III variant. This sinful act even reached as far as the persecution of the Evol'cor, who were immune to the deadly effects of the nanites.

Eventually, John came back with supernatural abilities. Some would consider him a god, but after the Reunification War, he considered himself a normal human with extremely powerful gifts. He used his temporal powers to move throughout the stars instantly, make copies of himself, absorb souls and eventually lay said souls to rest, and even give lesser versions of these gifts to those he deemed worthy of being Chosen.

This is now where we're at in Corsahn History - the point where peace and unity has been attained through the combined efforts of political movements and heroic figures in Corsahnim. Even Captain Cardan was recognized as a nationwide hero, despite being a pirate, due to his uncovering of the Ortega conspiracy to help Orson invade Corsahn Space if Ilyth'la regained control.

The year is 2330. Corsahnim is in a state of rebuilding after its separation into five successor states. The people sing hymns and epic songs alike as bonds that were once broken are being rebuilt.

However, in the center of the Hope Cluster, Sentinel is losing his battle to a dark being known as Oblivion due to Corsahn usage of temporal technology to defeat Orsonian warships and Nightfighters. Such is the cost of war...

That’s a bleaker interpretation than I think Rand was going for: the “strike of the mind” has devastating effects but from the rest of the book it’s clear that a disaster was imminent anyway; people were starving across the country due to disastrous decisions and poor quality equipment and such. They are trying to hurry things along and get the inevitable collapse and rebuilding over with, rather than prolonging things even further.
They certainly don’t mind the looters killing each other though. I don’t think any of them outright wanted anyone to die though, except when they killed several looters/guards rescuing Galt; several of them had excellent relationships with their staff, like Dagny with Eddie Willers.

Orsonian Intelligence Community

Below I have listed all agencies officially apart of Orson's intelligence community and their responsibilities, inspired by Novo's excellent factbook on the Wagain Intelligence Community and Oceara's list of her nation's agencies.

Regulatory Bureau (Regburo): Conducts surveillance on small businesses and major corporations to ensure they are complying with all post-revolutionary labor regulations. The Regburo cooperates with local soviets to investigate reports of wage theft, union busting, or abusive working conditions, and operates a vast network of informants who constantly monitor the actions of managers and executives.

Office of Military Intelligence (OMI): Gathers intelligence on foreign military capabilities and provides reports on enemy troop movements. OMI is divided into three departments: Army Intelligence, Naval Intelligence, and Aerospace Intelligence. Furthermore, OMI is involved in signals and geospatial intelligence, conducting mass data collection and surveillance via wiretapping and from its numerous satellites deployed in orbit.

Federal Security Bureau (FSB): The primary civilian intelligence agency, conducting surveillance on both domestic and foreign threats. FSB agents step in to aid local police forces in neutralizing particularly dangerous threats, such as terrorists or organized criminal syndicates. The FSB also operates clandestine cells in various foreign nations to gather human intelligence or conduct black operations, such as sabotage or assassinations.

Commission to Protect the Republic (COMPOR): Acquires intelligence on individuals or organizations presenting an existential danger to the Orsonian state. COMPOR's mandate is to ensure the continuity of democratic governance and prevent reactionary movements from reversing the reforms implemented during the Orsonian Revolution.

Office of Control: Acquires intelligence on entities exhibiting supernatural or anomalous characteristics which cannot be explained by the known laws of physics, or otherwise highly advanced technology. Control acts to neutralize supernatural entities endangering the Orsonian people and contain all anomalous objects within secure facilities.

Collection Service: Acquires intelligence on financial transactions within Orson, with the purpose of eliminating money laundering, shuttering illegal rackets, and lowering rates of tax evasion.

Office of the Inspector General (OIG): Acquires intelligence on corruption and criminal activity within the Federal government and foreign infiltration or sabotage of any public or private agency.

The Ministerial Councils for Defense, Public Security, Intelligence, and Foreign Affairs have all released a statement that GALA has been virtually wiped out in a single well-calculated operation by Confederate Forces with the assistance of an OAI Super-Computer and that only the currently deployed autonomous weapons of GALA remain of the Terrorist faction. That all GALA Secret Subterranean facilities were in fact still located on the Continent of Africa and that they have been entirely deconstructed back into solid rock.

Seems that the Confederates had reason to be confident in their ability to deal with the threat, and the Councils have declassified a data array of exact coordinates that would if plotted create a full 3d Representation of exactly where Sekou was located on Earth and even the exact position his body was in when Confederate super-weapons neutralized him. Added to this data array is a note that the location is now returned to the average composition of rock in the area and that as proof if scanned will indeed be with the level of uniform consistency expected from a Super-computer taking the average of the composition in the surrounding area and filling it back with particle manipulators. The uniform volume of rock would reveal the extensive size of this particular base located to the Northwest of Niamey deep underground which would be quite alarming although there would be nothing but to guess based on the broad exterior shapes as to the purpose of each part of the former base.

This democracy was sadly perverted by the Library, ran by the deceptive Jaune Le'forge, who intended to prepare the entire Corsahn Arm for mass ritualistic sacrifice toward his foreign god, the King in Yellow. The Orsonians eventually delivered Corsahnim from evil, and John - resurrected from the dead via cloning - was meant to take leadership. This, however, didn't happen.

John was imprisoned, same as Andreas Tirmanius, for telling the truth to the Orsonians - that Corsahnim was a Corsahn nation, not an Orsonian one. The Orsonians, thankfully, got the message, but not before interfering with the truth by spreading a nanite plague that simultaneously ruined John and Andreas' reputations and killing massive amounts of people implanted with an MAU - specifically, those implanted with the MAU Mark II, which was more common than the newer Mark III variant. This sinful act even reached as far as the persecution of the Evol'cor, who were immune to the deadly effects of the nanites.

Eventually, John came back with supernatural abilities. Some would consider him a god, but after the Reunification War, he considered himself a normal human with extremely powerful gifts. He used his temporal powers to move throughout the stars instantly, make copies of himself, absorb souls and eventually lay said souls to rest, and even give lesser versions of these gifts to those he deemed worthy of being Chosen.

This is now where we're at in Corsahn History - the point where peace and unity has been attained through the combined efforts of political movements and heroic figures in Corsahnim. Even Captain Cardan was recognized as a nationwide hero, despite being a pirate, due to his uncovering of the Ortega conspiracy to help Orson invade Corsahn Space if Ilyth'la regained control.

The year is 2330. Corsahnim is in a state of rebuilding after its separation into five successor states. The people sing hymns and epic songs alike as bonds that were once broken are being rebuilt.

However, in the center of the Hope Cluster, Sentinel is losing his battle to a dark being known as Oblivion due to Corsahn usage of temporal technology to defeat Orsonian warships and Nightfighters. Such is the cost of war...

I also find it interesting that Jaune Le'forge wanted to conduct mass sacrifice. Ironically enough, that would be almost completely useless: the cursed play The King in Yellow has to be performed to summon The Yellow King, and no amount of blood and souls will change that fact. Of course, he (or one of his servants such as Johannes Vanderberg) could probably find some way to make use of the situation in some way, but the sacrifices themselves wouldn’t do anything but kill people.

Below I have listed all agencies officially apart of Orson's intelligence community and their responsibilities, inspired by Novo's excellent factbook on the Wagain Intelligence Community and Oceara's list of her nation's agencies.

Regulatory Bureau (Regburo): Conducts surveillance on small businesses and major corporations to ensure they are complying with all post-revolutionary labor regulations. The Regburo cooperates with local soviets to investigate reports of wage theft, union busting, or abusive working conditions, and operates a vast network of informants who constantly monitor the actions of managers and executives.

Office of Military Intelligence (OMI): Gathers intelligence on foreign military capabilities and provides reports on enemy troop movements. The FSB also operates clandestine cells in various foreign nations to gather human intelligence or conduct black operations, such as sabotage or assassinations.

Commission to Protect the Republic (COMPOR): Acquires intelligence on individuals or organizations presenting an existential danger to the Orsonian state. COMPOR's mandate is to ensure the continuity of democratic governance and prevent reactionary movements from reversing the reforms implemented during the Orsonian Revolution.

Office of Control: Acquires intelligence on entities exhibiting supernatural or anomalous characteristics which cannot be explained by the known laws of physics, or otherwise highly advanced technology. Control acts to neutralize supernatural entities endangering the Orsonian people and contain all anomalous objects within secure facilities.

Collection Service: Acquires intelligence on financial transactions within Orson, with the purpose of eliminating money laundering, shuttering illegal rackets, and lowering rates of tax evasion.

Office of the Inspector General (OIG): Acquires intelligence on corruption and criminal activity within the Federal government and foreign infiltration or sabotage of any public or private agency.

I feel as though OIG is either toothless or they take a very “the ends justify the means” approach, seeing as several of their fellow agencies break the law on a semi-regular basis. Then again, a lot of it’s international law rather than Orsonian law, so they probably don’t place as high a priority on that than they do corruption or foreign interference.

Hendrik De Veiga, head of the Santa Catalina branch of Jednota Skrze Radost has approached the city with a proposal. In Cybusian territory or planets with a JSR presence, JSR Eyebots are a frequent sight, spreading JSR broadcast, news bulletins, and alerts wherever they roam. Hoping to increase engagement with the non-Cybusian community, he would like to deploy a set of 10 Eyebots to roam Santa Catalina as a test run, playing JSR broadcasts and music wherever they go, while also broadcasting important news bulletins from MPP or alerts from the police (missing person notifications, etc) or local government (announcing severe weather alerts, road closings, other important information) if need be.
The RobCo Eyebots will be closely monitored by JSR technicians working from the Kaiser complex, and will be deployed only in public areas, roaming the city in pre-set paths. They will not enter buildings or the grounds of facilities, nor will their paths take them past government offices, embassies, or the UCP complex.
The Eyebots are roughly twice the size of a human head and fly at or slightly above eye level; unlike regular Eyebots, they will be unarmed.
De Veiga has leaned into his knowledge of Wagain culture, arguing that the Eyebots will be akin to a mobile radio, spreading information and entertainment to all, even those who may not have a radio of their own, and augmenting communal and personal radios, helping promote radiocultura.

These agencies are actually under considerable scrutiny. In one of my previous posts, Director Cenga complained about the red tape and bureaucracy she's had to deal with ever since the republican government took over- that is essentially the OIG's role.

The OIG is most likely to intervene if an agency commits an illegal act or some sort of misconduct against a normal, law-abiding citizen. OIG officials generally turn a blind eye to misconduct against enemies of the state (Aturorists, anarchists, insurrectionists, terrorists) or foreigners. This is why there was no formal investigation when Naomi Sarota bombed Rapture- the OIG does not care what happens to civilians in Rapture.

Turner's Body Discovered:

The Federal Security Bureau has announced the shocking discovery of the deceased Emperor Turner's corpse inside a Ravenwood mortuary.

After spending over a year in a coma, Turner's doctors claimed to have detected no brain activity and thus removed him from life support. Unbeknownst to the general public, this claim was a lie. Turner suffered from locked-in syndrome, remaining fully conscious but unable to move any part of his body due to paralysis. The Emperor was deliberately killed by his doctors, injected with cryoprotectants and entombed inside a cryogenic chamber, located in a hidden room beneath the mortuary.

The mortuary's funeral director has been arrested by FSB agents, and revealed the truth about Turner's death during an interrogation. He is apart of an underground Aturorist cell dedicated to cloning and resurrecting the Emperor so that he can seize power and restore Orson to its former glory. This cell has spent the past two years trying to obtain the advanced technology needed to clone Turner, and is believed to have hidden agents within the Office of Control and research laboratories on Tasmania. When pressed for further details however, the director refused to reveal the identities or locations of his accomplices.

COMPOR is now in possession of Turner's corpse, kept locked away in a clandestine location. COMPOR officials have warned that other members of the Aturorist cell are still at large and are likely to possess Turner's DNA, allowing them to create a clone without needing his actual body. They have also chastised Control for its minimal cooperation in the investigation, accusing Madison Cenga of being loyal to the Emperor.
