With most of the Confederacy's most important ports taken by the Commonwealth, the Confederacy's morale plummets even more. A large majority of the army deserts and the Federal army surrounding Richmond tightens the noose even more, getting close enough for songs sung by the Federals to be heard in the city. They sing one particular song, familiar to the Confederates, to mock their cowardice.

"Away down South in the land of traitors, rattlesnakes and alligators, right away, right away! Come away, come away! Right away, right away, come away! We'll all go down to Dixie, away, away!
