Cheesus. I thought I was young. I'm 24! When I joined NS 3 years ago I think, I was a Masters student and even then I used to think EVERYONE is old. (Which wasn't my fault Yggdrasil has old people). Although I've never asked GRO this and If I was to make a random guess it wouldn't be confirmed but here it goes anyway: If I was to guess I would say Goddess Relief Office is in his 40s, Carrasastova is 25, Miporin is 23, Palos heights is, I want to say, 28? Atsvea feels like he/she would be around 20! Uan aa Boa is roughly 32 and finally Ransium is mostly definitely kind-of in his late 30s

So I'm planning to switch to a pescetarian diet by the end of 2020, for health and environmental reasons. Does anybody have any general advice regarding such a diet (e.g. avoiding fish with high mercury content or finding sustainably-farmed fish) and how best to switch to it for someone used to eating lots of red meat?

Funnily enough, I'd consider 24 or 25 to be the typical age. That's 6-7 years of higher education.

I worked for 4 or 5 years before starting my PhD, but a skipped masters and stayed laser-focused on my goal and finished in 4 and a half years. Now I'm in industry and having a PhD isn't all that helpful really, besides helping me get my foot in the door.

Right. So people usually go undergrad/masters/phd right? The usual age for starting an undergrad degree is 18 or 19. That's 3 years which puts us up to 21 or 22. Shortest masters and PHD would be 1 year for the masters, 3 for the PHD.

So if someone actively caned it through higher ed and didn't want or need to take a year out or so that'd be around about 25 or 26.

I mean, you could probably factor in a year or two working to save money for it, or a gap year if that's not a concern. Add another year farting around trying to figure out what to do or writing a proposal as well... yeah, I'd say the average would probably be mid 20's to early 30's

Before there are any wild accusations of me being in my 40s or older, I am a spry 39.

that's a more European timescale I think. In the us, undergrad is usually four years (starting about 18), but depending on the subject a lot of people get their master's along the way to a PhD at the same institution. Maybe about 4 years for something like applied math, 5/6 for a more theoretical science, 7+ for the poor souls in humanities...

Huh. I honestly figured higher education was a lot more standardized than it is.

Also Forest seems to be pretty good academically on average.

my cohort has a lot of international students, so many of them "started" with me having already obtained a master's elsewhere.

There are more restrictions on funding for international students as well (at least at some public schools) which is another reason they're pushed to finish faster.
