That was quick! Those people were just waiting on you border to cross? If this is going to happen, you communicate (perhaps through telegram) with Cossack Peoples and if it passes with them, you can go ahead after a few days real time (to simulate the long journey between countries)

In other words, I'd count this as Null and void. It never happened. (or is changed to work.)

Edit: Just looking through Cossack Peoples' policies and ID chips are administered. I can imagine these would have some GPS tracking ability and so would make leaving extremely difficult. Now, the black market may provide a way to remove them or allow parents to somehow make sure their children aren't ID'd but that would have to be okay'd with Cossack Peoples first.

Sorry for carrying on like this but you might not necessarily have embassies. If you do, great! Ignore this, but otherwise, people will take some time to get to your ports (or airports though that might take some Cossack corruption you'd need to get approved first.)

Right! I wouldn't either but if people are desperate enough, I can just about see them trying anyway.

That said, with the war, I wouldn't be surprised if there was increased security at ports and airports, thus reducing further the likelihood of people leaving.

That would be very effective at stopping people leaving thoguh some may still get on their fishing boats from small coastal villages or towns (ostensibly to work being fishermen) and not come back. A few people would get through is what I'm saying.

That is true, but the assumption was that since the war I mentioned is recognized, that would mean the geography as shown in the LazMap would apply; particularly in making military threats (i.e. if you are bordering us, we'd be much more likely to flagrantly use the military threats, but if you're far away, we'd be a bit more strategic in how we deal with you.) If we could decide where you are in relation to me (i.e. on land, on sea, etc.) it might help things along.

We hardly have embassies with New vedan whom we presumably are at peace with. And I have acted like our banter was more of throwing messages across the world rather than diplomats sitting down and speaking; although for the sake of progression, I'd allow an embassy.

1) We made no threats to you. You incited war.
2) We don't want a war, ever. So our relative position doesn't matter.

OOC:Oh, bit of a misunderstanding— it’s not that we’d go all the way with a whole war, it’s just if we could set in vague terms where your country is; nearby on land or far away overseas, it’d be easier to make threats based on that knowledge. You know how it is with dictatorships.

It’s also not a matter of who is right; the Soviet Union sure as hell wouldn’t just say to the US: “Man, you’re right, maybe the KGB is a bit too harsh. I’ll be sure to become a better society right away!” From each country’s point of view, with some degree of misinformation, patriotism, and ignorance, their country and cause is right. Although my country would be all-too-happy to use their land force-centered military to invade anyone at this point, but if you’re not interested in rp’ing that then that’s ok and we should move on.

The Imperium of Leonism

Lower leonism, semi-autonomous territory of the Imperium of Leonism
Finally, after a many week long journey, the team of intelligence agents from Glorious society and Cossack Peoples had finally made contact with officers of die Rebellion, the local resistance movement to free Lower leonism from Imperial rule. Their main point of contact was a man named Junius Severus. In his daytime job he was a logistics officer at the Imperial Armed Forces, which made him all the more valuable for the Rebellion, as his duty included driving to various Imperial bases and organise supply shipments. He knew a lot about the disposition of the Imperial Armed Forces.

Traditionally, due to recurring unrest in the area, the armed forces had lots of oversized garrisons in the provinces of Ohrwald and Tannberg, which formed the territory of Lower leonism. Since even before the Easter Uprising of 1891, the Imperium was wary of the military prowess of its Roman minority, which was the most numberous in exactly these provinces.

With Leonism having universal military service, it was a rather easy thing to draft in soldiers from all across the other 56 provinces to man the bases in Lower Leonism, while the Latin speakers were often conscripted into units far to the South, to mix them with other Imperials and avoid them adopting an "us vs them" mentality regarding the native German speakers in the Imperium, who made up 90% of the Imperial population but were a minority in some districts of Ohrwald and Tannberg.

Junius Severus met the foreign agents in a shed on a remote farm in the hills near the northeastern border. The question of how the Southern Compact could aid the Rebellion was still largely unresolved. The long distance and unfavourable geography made any shipments of military equipment difficult at best. With the Imperiale Marine swarming all seas between Avalon and the South, most of the shipments were liable to interception en route. Though the submarine on which the agents had arrived got through...maybe that was a possibility? The Marine did seem to have few - if any - submarines of its own, so maybe that was a weak spot that could be exploited? Even Junius Severus had never heard of an Imperial U-Boot base. If one existed, it must be a closely guarded secret.

The Rebellion, while consisting of very dedicated and often well-trained warriors, was also quite small in numbers. The 2015 War of the Northern Provinces was still felt. Many rebellious soldiers had been captured and were still in prison or at least house arrest under supervision, and a number had died. The civilian population was not in the mood for another uprising, especially given the economic improvements that Imperator Konsul Leo I.'s rule had brought.

Moreover, many locals of Lower leonism sided with the Imperium in these times of war against the South. The Southern Compact would not be met with open arms. Any support would have to take place in secrecy, and with the origin obscured from all but a select few among the rebels.

Junius Severus placed a paper map on the dilapidated table in the shed. It showed all known Imperial bases in the vicinity. There were dozens, no hundreds of them. Many were small, the smallest of which were only staffed by 50 full time soldiers. The Imperial Armed Forces were known for their incomprehensible size. Over 80 million full time professional soldiers. But distributed among the vast territory of the Imperium, their local numbers were less overwhelming. Most of these small garrisons were built so that in time of war, the local reservists had a time to gather, muster and train. So a base that might only have 50 full time soldiers would be capable of housing 1000 reservists in times of mobilisation. Right now, with the War against the Southern Compact, one billion Imperial reservists had been mobilised. This would further complicate any attempt at an uprising, but also made for a much larger numbers of targets of opportunity. Small convois were everywhere. Lots of rusty reservists with no combat experience (as this was the first shooting war the Imperium was involved in for decades - internal conflicts like the aforementioned War of the Northern Territories aside) were around. The Rebellion could make a difference for the Southern Compact even through small scale attacks...these would draw attention and resources away from the war, and force Imperial commanders to better guard targets in their own backyard.

The Imperium of Leonism

Cossack Peoples wrote:
“What the hell are those? Why aren’t we-- Fine, get me air support. Cocky bastards…” Rostov ordered an adjutant away to call in it. The hill provided a good vantage point for a commander, but he couldn’t even take pride in that; not when there were aircraft that he could see but not shoot down.

Miles away, Rapier III interceptors that were kept ready soared off their airfields in the Southern FRCP; at Mach 3, they would arrive to the location in ten minutes; but be well within range long before that.

Meanwhile, Rostov saw the Imperial shuttles descend; one stopped at the tank column, another at the construction site, and another on the opposite hill, where no enemy had yet been spotted.

“There’s no sign of any civilians at the construction site,” shouted a radioman.
“Get me to the artillery captain.” Rostov barked.

Suddenly, nine self-propelled guns now took aim at the base of Hill 879. They would work their way up the hill to ensure that the area had been properly saturated. Three howitzers still worked at demobilizing the freighters; striving to hit their water lines and sink them for good.

High explosive shells demolished trees, sending fragments of steel and wood flying wildly. Those outside dugouts and foxholes would almost certainly be hit.

The rest of the tank column did not take too kindly to the intrusion. Save for the forward vehicles of the formation, the entirety of the tank plastun opened fire on the hovering shuttle with not just their cannons but their anti-personnel spread.

With the column still moving, the front had to fork around the lead vehicle of Uryadnik Psakov, autocannon and tank desant soldier spraying the Heer down on both sides of the knocked out vehicle. Light machine guns wielded by infantry taking shelter behind turrets of tanks only added to the redundancy of the machine guns of the Lepanto; but in this situation, the elite soldiers of the Imperium were nothing short of doomed from the sheer amount of firepower they stumbled into.

For every special operative that spread out to engage the column was met by ten various bullets from vehicle and soldier alike, sent by 288 escorting infantry that now clambored to cover on a side of a tank or flinging themselves to the ground. The tanks continued on, albeit at a slower pace, occasionally being struck by the F77 shuttle’s beam, their destitute wreck becoming another detour for later tanks.

”Get moving! Where’s the anti-armor?” Shouted a nearby Uryadnik. As the CO of the 139th Motorized Infantry Menshyy Plastun, Pyotr Havrysh trudged alongside the HQ units far behind the assault and support elements of the Menshyy Plastun. As they had made their way down the hill, the enemy made a tactical insertion of sorts with a bulky shuttle; when anti-aircraft missiles were turned to it, the shuttle swatted it down with a fury of light.

Thirty-some hostiles hopped out and took up positions in the prefabricated structures and cargo containers, all under heavy fire. The 631st Menshyy Plastun and Havrysh’s unit took up a position along a hill between the cliffs of Hill 907 and the construction site, which served as an forward observation post to the contention to the west.

At the hovering Imperial shuttles came long-range missiles; their recipients clear but the sender unknown and obscured by the crease of the horizon. Two flights of Loftegenian interceptors were on their way, making way for a force of transport and attack helicopters that would provide close air support and reinforcements for the army.

Omega Basis construction site
The Imperials at the site had taken heavy losses once the fight began in earnest. The Imperial special forces that made an impromptu attack with their F77 shuttle had to withdraw within seconds of arriving, under a hail of fire. The shuttle's armour itself had been pierced in several places, it would no longer be able to travel at high altitude.

The other two F77 shuttles were suddenly targeted by long range missiles from Beyond Visual Range (BVR). Their computers were able to identify the incoming fire as coming from Loftegen 3-made Rapier III interceptors. "Remind me to give our friends in Loftegen a piece of my mind once this is over", one of the pilots remarked to his co-pilot, as he concentrated on evasive maneuvers, deploying flares and shooting down the incoming missiles with their lasers. While the shuttles remained unharmed from the first salvo, they had to divert all their attention to the attack, unable to function as close air support for the ground troops anymore.

And those troops could do little but duck and cover, as the Cossack artillery shelled them. Cossack infantry had already taken over the construction site, recieving only sporadic counter-fire from the Imperials positioned on the nearby hill.

The battle looked lost. Then, a blinding flash of light obscured the view of the area for the F77 pilots - and many other people. But the Raumwaffe trained crew quickly knew what was going on. The Imperial starship L/KRV Sonnenwind had joined the battle. Freshly repaired in New vedan and flying at a relatively low altitude of 80 km, the ship was now using its long-range lasers for an orbital bombardement of the Cossack artillery. A crater with a molten artillery piece in its centre marked the spot where the Sonnenwind first hit with its 100 MW laser.
"Ha, go get them, Raumwaffe! They'll have no answer to this!" the same F77 pilot exclaimed again. Then, having momentarily been distracted by what was happening, his craft was struck by a missile and spun around out of control. The starboard engines had been disabled, making for a very uneven level of thrust. The pilots fought to regain control and did so just above the ground. When looking outside again, they faced several barrels from Cossack tank main cannons, and that was the last thing they ever saw.
