The Free Land of Vowlov is a colossal, socially progressive nation, notable for its rum-swilling pirates, absence of drug laws, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, democratic population of 8.406 billion Vowlovians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal, socially-minded, outspoken morass — juggles the competing demands of Education, Welfare, and Healthcare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Mantodea. The average income tax rate is 72.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The large but sluggish Vowlovian economy, worth 132 trillion Object of utility or labor or foods a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, highly specialized black market in Basket Weaving, Door-to-door Insurance Sales, and Soda Sales. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 15,767 Object of utility or labor or foods, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Saying "don't do anything that Leader wouldn't do" doesn't exclude a great deal, social media sites prompt users to send birthday greetings to unresponsive nonagenarians, signs at the border tell international drivers where they can put their cars, and ice-filled coffins are ominously positioned in the corner of every hospital ward. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Vowlov's national animal is the Praying Mantis, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Vowlov is ranked 270,744th in the world and 1st in Meadow for Largest Publishing Industry, scoring -8.15 on the Bella Potter Productivity e-Index.
