The hard-nosed, humorless, devout population of 17.087 billion citizens are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Visograd. The average income tax rate is 56.4%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The strong Visorax economy, worth a remarkable 1,730 trillion dollars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, quite specialized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Trout Farming, and Woodchip Exports. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. The right to free speech is being drastically curtailed, the government is a proud sponsor of the National Gaming Association, children as young as six shock their parents by coming out of the closet, and serial killers who are released early distribute death but not their seed. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Visorax's national animal is the robot, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
