The Mali Empire of Timbuktu is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. The hard-working, democratic population of 15.613 billion Timbuktuans hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The tiny, liberal, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 6.8%.

The Timbuktuan economy, worth 858 trillion gold dusts a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is fairly diversified and led by the Tourism industry, with major contributions from Gambling, Cheese Exports, and Beef-Based Agriculture. Average income is 55,000 gold dusts, with the richest citizens earning 5.4 times as much as the poorest.

Voting is voluntary, Timbuktu's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, and all telephone traffic is monitored for 'national security reasons'. Crime is moderate, probably because of the absence of a police force. Timbuktu's national animal is the lion.

Timbuktu is ranked 207,237th in the world and 5th in African Union for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -4.27 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
