The Republic of Eastoria is a huge, genial nation, ruled by President Robert Brunner with a fair hand, and renowned for its public floggings, compulsory military service, and irreverence towards religion. The compassionate, democratic population of 900 million Eastorians love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Healthcare, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Klerksburg. The average income tax rate is 43.7%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The strong Eastorian economy, worth 54.6 trillion Euros a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Cheese Exports, Furniture Restoration, and Automobile Manufacturing. Black market activity is frequent. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 60,663 Euros, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.4 times as much as the poorest.

Pregnant hitchhikers with signs requesting rides to "competent care" are a common sight on Eastorian roads, anyone interested in the stock market is investigated, would-be emigrants are told "abandon all hope all ye who would exit here", and the best way to be heard in politics is to speak softly and carry a big comedy prop. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Eastoria's national animal is the Falcon, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.
