The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 16.262 billion Seven Cloudsians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

Mesopotamia moves with the times, massive new slaughterhouses are being hailed as a sign of progress, girl scouts are forced to bake their own cookies, and children crying over dropped ice creams are offered high doses of experimental antidepressants. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Seven Clouds's national animal is the Dove, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Melchizedek Order.
