The Borderlands of Rei is a massive, orderly nation, remarkable for its avowedly heterosexual populace, free-roaming dinosaurs, and rampant corporate plagiarism. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 4.251 billion Reians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
The large, corrupt, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Industry, and Law & Order. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 56.7%.
The all-consuming Reian economy, worth 318 trillion credits a year, is quite specialized and dominated by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Retail. Black market activity is rampant. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 74,835 credits, with the richest citizens earning 6.3 times as much as the poorest.
Tombstones are ten feet high to accommodate the names of inhabitants, a niche industry catering to S&M enthusiasts has sprung up, virtual assistants are seen with increasing suspicion every time they get an upgrade, and school lunches are made with hypo-allergenic wood pulp. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Rei's national animal is the cat, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
Rei is ranked 240,291st in the world and 20th in Warzone Airspace for Most Primitive, scoring -127 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
