The Free Land of Rentopia is a large, genial nation, remarkable for its soft-spoken computers, punitive income tax rates, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate, democratic population of 99 million Rentopians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The enormous, liberal, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 63.8%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Rentopian economy, worth 3.83 trillion ducats a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is led by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology, Pizza Delivery, and Uranium Mining. Average income is 38,732 ducats, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The nation faces constant invasions by foreign boy bands, motorists must pay to enter inner-cities during peak hours, politicians "baring all" for the camera isn't always a figure of speech, and same-sex marriages are increasingly common. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Rentopia's national animal is the Chimera, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Rentopia is ranked 92,826^th in the world and 1,925^th in the South Pacific for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 89.72 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
