The People's Republic of Verenzia is a massive, genial nation, remarkable for its anti-smoking policies, soft-spoken computers, and frequent executions. The compassionate, democratic population of 1.163 billion Verenzians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 89.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Verenzian economy, worth 112 trillion rens a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is mostly made up of the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Basket Weaving, and Book Publishing. Average income is 96,567 rens, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Power stations shutting down at night has made bedtime reading tricky, the doctor has cold hands, companies struggle to cover for the hordes of employees on parental leave, and torture is illegal. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Verenzia's national animal is the fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Verenzia is ranked 10,438^th in the world and 338^th in The Communist Bloc for Safest, scoring 120.72 on the Bubble-Rapp Safety Rating.
