The Kingdom of Manches is a gargantuan, cultured nation, ruled by William VI with an iron fist, and remarkable for its public floggings, compulsory military service, and frequent executions. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 11.02 billion Manchesians are proud of their wide-ranging civil freedoms, and those who aren't tend to be dragged off the streets by men in dark suits and hustled into cars with tinted windows.

The medium-sized, corrupt, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Industry, Defense, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Alryne. The average income tax rate is 45.0%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Manchesian economy, worth a remarkable 1,600 trillion Sterlings a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Book Publishing, and Gambling. Black market activity is rampant. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 145,210 Sterlings, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.1 times as much as the poorest.

Presbyterian Trinitism now admits men and women into its clergy, traffic cops spend most of their work-hours calculating citizens' monthly income, there's never enough space in space, and engineers ask liberal arts majors "Do you want fries with that?". Crime is a problem, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Manches's national animal is the Lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is Presbyterian Trinitism.
