The Constitutional Imperium of Kalish is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by Ulfric Von NorthStar with a fair hand, and remarkable for its museums and concert halls, smutty television, and sprawling nuclear power plants. The compassionate, democratic population of 2.852 billion Kalishians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The large, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Education, and Defense. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of North Star. The average income tax rate is 87.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming Kalishian economy, worth 351 trillion kalishnan credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is led by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Arms Manufacturing, and Trout Farming. Average income is an impressive 123,345 kalishnan credits, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Much of Kalish's computer network is controlled by a rampant artificial intelligence, a flying elephant and Ulfric Von NorthStar share the same nickname, the recital of citations that follows any political speech can be longer than the speech itself, and angry men scowl at each other across chess boards. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kalish's national animal is the hawk, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is Skalen.
