The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic population of 1.312 billion docksiders are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The relatively small, pro-business, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Administration, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Atlantis Shipyards. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 9.0%.

The all-consuming docksider economy, worth 108 trillion federal dollars a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Uranium Mining, Information Technology, and Book Publishing. Average income is 82,638 federal dollars, but there is a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 364,918 per year while the poor average 11,717, a ratio of 31.1 to 1.

The best way to be heard in politics is to speak softly and carry a big comedy prop, many of the poor live from cradle to grave without ever seeing sunlight, anti-government web sites are springing up, and Atlantis Shipyards's flashy holiday light displays can be seen from space. Crime is a serious problem, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Dockside Internal Security Directorate's national animal is the bigfoot, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is polytheism.
