The Republic of Automake is a gargantuan, cultured nation, notable for its daily referendums, fear of technology, and ritual sacrifices. The compassionate, cynical, devout population of 10.558 billion Automakeans are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Administration, and Industry. The average income tax rate is 48.9%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The Automakean economy, worth 540 trillion dollars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, quite specialized black market in Tourism, Book Publishing, Furniture Restoration, and Soda Sales. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 51,153 dollars, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Leader spends weekends doing the laundry of foreign leaders, the government tries not to listen to the people unless it absolutely has to, many of the unemployed have had the fight taken out of them, and power to the people comes from the barrel of a gun. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Automake's national animal is the beaver, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Automake is ranked 4,218^th in the world and 50^th in Artificial Solar System for Most Primitive, scoring 134.5 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
