The Grand Duchy of Dhemixia is a massive, safe nation, remarkable for its keen interest in outer space, ritual sacrifices, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate population of 3.166 billion Dhemixians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

Citizens are strongly encouraged to breathe less so as to limit the carbon footprint, space shuttles are lying silent on the runway till the Space Agency can work out how to fit a creche and a meditation room into their next spacecraft, Dhemixians incessantly needle their doctors for relief, and major cities shut down as their local sports team takes to the field every day. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Dhemixia's national animal is the Serpent, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
