The Federation of Namsan is a huge, efficient nation, remarkable for its teetotalling pirates, pith helmet sales, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, hard-working, humorless population of 549 million Namsanians are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

Black market activity is notable. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 103,548 Namsan Crowns, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.0 times as much as the poorest.

Both criminals and civilians are DOA, no-one can foil the ambitions of Big Aluminium, mathematicians are gathering an infinite number of Pallas’s Cats and typewriters to see if they can recreate the works of Max Barry, and the government has an entire department dedicated to staring at microscopes and writing down letters. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Namsan's national animal is the Pallas’s Cat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
