Aguya (A Guy from Some Place), officially the People's Democratic Republic of Aguya is a sovereign nation situated in the Danean region. Place Aguya (formerly Fort Harris) serves as the administrative center and seat of government, located along the Aguyan River that drains into the Sea of Aguy to the west.

The Aguyan government is a federal Marxist-Leninist socialist republic headed by the General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Aguya (RCPA), pseudonymously known as "Commander Tove." Aguya is divided into 4 federal regions and further subdivided into provinces totaling 9. The Ruegsegger mountain range straddles the northwestern borders of Aguya and was the center of a dispute between Aguya and its neighboring country, the United Danean Republic. The Aguyan Desert encompasses the eastern half of the country and is largely uninhabited. Aguya contains 2 major lakes, the northern Imperial Lake and the southern Lake Nukosev.

Aguya has had a tumultuous history ever since its inception. Aguya was established on June 29, 2018, as a fledgling imperial monarchy. The monarchy would subsequentyl immediately overthrown by a neo-fascist military junta later in August amid a civil war. The totalitarian Corporate State of Aguya would be formally established on November 6, 2018 and under the doctrine of National Corporatism. During this brief period, Aguya engaged in two wars against Danea and gained considerable gains especially to the south and east during the Second Aguyan-Danean War. on June 6, 2021, the Aguyan State collapsed due to social and economic stagnation and the monarchy was restored. The monarchy liberalized the market and led the transition from a corporatist economy to a free-market capitalist economy. On April 28, 2022, the monarchy was overthrown once again by cult-followers of Lotte Jansson backed by corporate moguls and businessmen. The oligarchy would collapse on March 18, 2023 and transition to the establishment of the short-lived Sovereign Realm, the first nominally democratic government in Aguyan history. With the severe economic crisis brought about by extreme lassez-faire market policies remaining unresolved, the Revolutionary Communist Party of Aguya-Aguyan Front for National Liberation, would overthrow the Sovereign Realm with sizeable popular support from chronically impoverished regions.

Christianity has historically been the most dominant religion in Aguya. Roman Catholicism, the largest sect of Christianity in the country, is the majority religion of Aguya; 85% of the population adheres to Roman Catholicism, which remains dominant and strong in the rural provinces but has otherwise lost all political influence. 7% of the population subscribe to Aguyan Christianity, an independent sect whose doctrines and practices are influenced by National Corporatist ideology. Approximately 5% of the population adhere to State Lotte-worship, a fringe cult that once served as the state religion for a period of time.

Etymology

The name 'Aguya' is derived from the nation's full name 'A Guy from Some Place'. The origin of the name 'A Guy from Some Place' is still widely debated and there are numerous competing theories to explain its origin. A leading theory suggests that 'A Guy from Some Place' was named verbatim after a guy from some place, the mythological founder of the nation according to legend. There also remains a debate regarding the existence of a purported alternative name of Aguya, however. a reportedly effective and brutal historical whitewashing campaign has made it near-impossible to confirm.

History

First Empire
Aguya emerged from a brutal war of independence against Danea and was formally established on June 29, 2018 as an imperialist absolute monarchy under the Harris Dynasty. The empire was relatively short-lived and there is a significant void of information regarding this certain time period. The only surviving records of its policies indicate that the empire laid the groundwork for the country's strong xenophobia. It launched a costly invasion of Danea circa August 2018 which served as a catalyst to the subsequent public unrest and months of violent rioting. The perceived humiliation of Aguya, coupled with rampant government inefficiency resulted in a civil war between moderates-conservatives, the communist People's Front and the fascist Aguyan Salvation Army. The Aguyan Salvation Army overthrew the imperial monarchy during the August Coup and established a military junta led by Kurt Wessel. The People's Front was suppressed violently by the interim junta, ending the civil war and restorng stability.

Military Junta and Corporate State

Aguya under the military junta was reorganized into a totalitarian, militaristic and xenophobic state aligned with the values of the state-formed Aguyan Christian Church, which had no real underlying theology other than support for the government. The Falangist-influenced National Corporatism was officially adopted as the state ideology. The junta supposedly reorganized the economy along national syndicalist lines, however in practice it was barely any different from the previous capitalist system. The junta rode on a wave of popularity from Aguyans due to the restoration of public order and accompanying economic growth that nominally increased living standards nationwide.

The Corporate State of Aguya was formally established by Kurt Wessel as Chancellor on November 6, under the governance of the sole legal party, the National Salvation Front. The government embarked on an aggressive jingoistic policy of "Aguyan Isolationism". It occupied the Berkeley Archipelago to the west on November 30, 2018 with barely any significant resistance from its locals. Corruption was notoriously an open secret with party elites receiving high amounts of kickbacks from government projects. The state became increasingly more repressive over time following the establishment of the secret Aguyan State Police and the construction of a nationwide network of concentration camps. The National Salvation Front became increasingly influenced more by aspects of National Socialism, proclaiming that the Aguyan people were a master race and pursuing an agenda of Social Darwinism. Public spending for public welfare was diverted to strengthening the war industries and armed forces.

Second Aguyan-Danean War

As time progressed, Kurt Wessel became increasingly perceived by the party elites as too moderate and 'traitorous' for seeking cooperation with Danea and would be ousted by Georg Rowan, a notorious demagogue and hardliner who would push for all out war against its Danea. On February 16, 2019, the Corporate State would launch another expensive, but successful invasion of the United Danean Republic, gaining a significant amount of land in the process. The entire Ruegsegger Mountain Range, Lake Nukosev and regions in the Aguyan desert were captured and short-lived demilitarized zone and Falangist puppet state were established in its Danea. Aguyan military prowess proved highly decisive in its invasion, however the subsequent occupation proved too costly amid strong guerrilla resistance and widespread civil disobedience, forcing a withdrawal of occupation troops.

The invasion of Danea was initially met with popular support. A significant majority approved the annexation of 'Aguyan lost territories' but immediately withdrew their support once occupation proved to futile and costly. Georg Rowan and his key allies within the party would mysteriously pass away after the war, with official sources stating that they were assassinated by 'internal party enemies,' however the circumstances surrounding their deaths led to widespread belief that they committed suicide for the 'humiliating' defeat. Erich Hoepner, a distant crony of the previous chancellor Georg Rowan, would succeed as Chancellor shortly thereafter on March 1, 2019, and would prove to be a rather unpopular leader with no bold ambition. Elected by only 23% minority of party votes, Hoepner played zero role in national policy-making and his inaction to commit to his role led to crippling social and economic stagnation. He failed to combat the economic and social woes after the war, and the gradual collapse of key party-controlled institutions. On June 6, 2021, following negotiations between Hoepner and Mariano I, the Corporate State would be succeeded by the Imperial Realm under an absolute Catholic monarchy.

Imperial Realm and overthrow

Aguya under HRH Mariano I, affectionately nicknamed 'Bullet King' would embark on a period of economic liberalization. Economic regulations were gradually repealed and the previous corporatist model was succeeded with a lassez-faire capitalist model. The Roman Catholic Church was declared the state religion; the Aguyan Christian Church rapidly declined with many adherents converting to Catholicism. Religious traditionalism played a key role in social matters with the highly conservative laws of the Corporate State remaining in effect. Aguya gravitated towards actual isolationism, and military jingoism was curtailed by the Imperial Realm. HRH Mariano I would die barely 3 months during his reign and would be succeeded by Ferdinand I, whose government reversed some economic policies of HRH Bullet King to address the wealth gap. HRH Ferdinand I was however in many ways similar to Erich Hoepner in that he was largely ineffectual as a leader and was a generally absent leader. On April 28, 2022, Lotte-worshipers would overthrow the monarchy and established a corporatocratic oligarchy. Information on the Lotte-worshipers before their rise to power is relatively scarce, aside from that it was a fringe cult that revolved around an unusual devotion towards Lotte Jansson, a fictional Finnish witch from Little Witch Academia. The Lotte-worshipers were supported by the corporate elite, which sought to expand its power and holdings after the collapse of the Aguyan Corporate State.

Lotte-worshiping Oligarchy

Following the fall of the Imperial Realm, the new oligarchy completely deregulated the economy and promulgated policies that exacerbated the wealth gap, eliminated social welfare, prioritized the interests of monopolies, plunged the country into poverty and brought about the decline of Aguya's military might. State Lotte-worship was declared the official religion of the oligarchy and all other religions were de jured outlawed. Initially, State Lotte-worship was imposed aggressively to eliminate Roman Catholicism, however the threat of an armed insurgency akin to the Cristero War was too risky to ignore by the oligarchy. Subsequently, only other religious minorities were persecuted under the oligarchy. On October 25, 2022, the oligarchy would 'appoint' prominent businessman Roberto Kitamori as first among equals in the ruling government, the latter maintaining the policies and protecting the interests of his peers.

The oligarchy experienced a rapid decline from power when tensions erupted during an infamous series of legislative sessions in the latter half of February. The government was put in a gridlock and legislation was halted due to warring factions seeking to replace Lotte Jansson as best girl with other characters from the series. The unprecedented ridiculousness of the issue resulted in massive anti-government rallies for the first time since Aguya's independence, with Rudolf Hoepner, brother of disgraced leader Erich Hoepner, becoming the leader of the opposition. The Armed Forces and National Police would refuse to suppress the protests despite orders from the government, and their respective high commands formally defected within the two week period prior to the fall of the oligarchy. With the absence of any legitimate support for the government, Roberto Kitamori would concede to the rebels and hand over power to Rudolf Hoepner as Prime Minister. Shortly afterwards, the Hope-Autumn monarchy was re-established under the newly-formed parliamentary Sovereign Realm and all high-ranking ministers of the oligarchy were detained.

Sovereign Realm and People's Democratic Republic

The Sovereign Realm of Aguya was the first democratic government in Aguyan history with the first parliamentary elections being held on March 19, 2023, nearly 5 years after Aguya's independence. Immediately upon the formation of the sovereign realm, the Marxist-Leninist Revolutionary Communist Party of Aguya-Aguyan Front for National Liberation (RCPA-AFNL) initiated its insurgency in the southeastern regions of the country as a result of brutal repression and devastating free-market policies. The RCPA would exploit popular dissatisfaction with the negative socio-economic effects of the Imperial Realm's and Lotte-worshipping oligarchy's policies to win popular support and backing. Although initially concentrated in the region of Augusta, it rapidly made gains beginning November, 2023 and captured Place Aguya on February 18, 2024. The RCPA's general secretary, "Commander Tove" would proclaim the People's Democratic Republic on the same day and form a provisional government to establish its foothold on the country. Immediately after its seizure of power, all private industries were nationalized and the notorious wealth gap was significantly reduced to its lowest levels since the seizure of power of the Lotte-worshiping oligarchy.

Environment

Aguyan oilfields in the Eastern Territory

Aguyan territory encompasses an area of 1,221,037km² and enjoys a temperate climate across the western coast. The eastern regions of the country is predominantly arid and sparsely populated, with major settlements located near the border of the Augusta and Grebnruen-Nedserd provinces. Sandstorms are common in the eastern territories and have contributed to significant droughts at times, devastating local agriculture. Precipitation averages at 935mm annually, with rainstorms more pronounced during the summer season.

The geography of Aguya is mostly flat, forested plains, with the Ruegsegger Mountains straddling the northwestern borders of the country and the Aguyan desert situated on the east. The highest point of the country is Mt. Pohjola, renamed from Mt. Harris, at an elevation of 5602ft above sea level, while the lowest point is located in the Imperial Lake at an elevation of -360ft. Seismic activity is unheard of in Aguya, as it is not located near a significant fault line nor does the country have any active volcanoes.

Aguya is rich in valuable uranium and petroleum, and is exploited heavily by large-scale monopolies. Other natural resources of Aguya include timber, gold, aluminum and copper. Due to the deregulation of the economy, the abolishing of environmental protection laws and the high value of such resources, mining and logging have rapidly sprung up across the country and have brought irreversible environmental damages to the detriment of the local wildlife.

Data on Aguyan biodiversity is very scarce. Only one known endemic species is known, the Aguyan eagle, the national animal of the country. The status of the Aguyan eagle is unknown especially after the government permitted the consumption of the bird, but is widely believed to be vulnerable to critically endangered. Endemic marine wildlife had been driven into extinction as a result of rampant pollution of both the Imperial Lake and Lake Nukosev, and only foreign and often invasive species dwell in bodies of water after partial rehabilitation.

Government

Aguya is a federal Marxist-Leninist socialist republic under a provisional government headed by General Secretary "Commander Tove." Organized along democratic centralism, the National People’s Assembly serves as Aguya’s main legislative organ. Its delegates convene on an irregular basis and serve as representatives of different districts and sectors of the population. The National People’s Assembly in turn elects the members of the National Central Committee. The Supreme Central Committee in turn elects the General Secretary and the Politburo of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Aguya.

The ruling Revolutionary Communist Party of Aguya (RCPA) seized power on February 18, 2024 after a prolonged insurgency. It proclaims itself to be the ideological successor of the People's Front which was violently suppressed during the country's first civil war. It officially adheres to Marxism-Leninism, however elements of Maoism and anti-revisionism are present in the party line. Little is known about the leaders of the RCPA due to its culture of strong secrecy and anonymity — not much has surfaced regarding details of its precise founding, with many theorizing that it had even existed under the Lotte-worshiping oligarchy.

Prior to the establishment of the People’s Democratic Republic, Aguyan governments were highly authoritarian and non-democratic. Critics however would view the People’s Democratic Republic as a continuation of this trend of authoritarianism however. Previous governments include a fascist one-party state, an absolute monarchy, a corporatocratic oligarchy, and a constitutional monarchy.

Foreign Relations

Aguya is presently a member of the The Leftist Assembly, and was previously a member of the The Everlasting Kawaii Empire. It does not however maintain active diplomatic relations as of March, 2024.

Military

The Aguyan military, officially the Aguyan Armed Forces, consists of 3 branches, the Aguyan Land Army, the Aguyan Navy and the Aguyan Air Force. It receives 6.58 trillion Aguyan Marks annually, or 41.9% of the GDP. The Aguyan National Police (ANP), responsible for law and order, receives 3.049 trillion Aguyan Marks in annual funding, or 23.1% of the GDP. Combined, they take up 65% of annual government spending.

Administrative divisions

Aguya is divided into 4 federal regions (Ruegsegger also known as Pohjola, Aguya, Ednael-Augusta and the Eastern Territory) and further subdivided for a total 9 provinces.

Demographics

As of late 2022, the Aguyan population stands at 6.696 billion residents, with the most densely populated area being the province of Nekcuerbraas. 95.42% of Aguyans reside in the Aguya and Ednael-Augusta regions, with the remaining population dwelling in the Ruegsegger and Eastern Territory regions. Annual population growth is an estimated 66.82% from Jun. 2021 to Jun. 2022.

Actual ethnic percentages are totally unknown. The latest census reported that 100% of Aguya is 'Aguyan,' but foreign observers have casted doubt regarding the homogeneous nature of the population.

Religion

Aguya is a predominantly Catholic nation, with 84.3% of the population identifying as Roman Catholic, 11.48% as Protestant and only a mere 5.2% identifying as Lotte-worshipers. Of the Protestant population, 57.31% adhere to the Aguyan Christian faith Irreligion rates are very low in the country with 0.98% of the country identifying as atheist.

Aguya under the Harris Dynasty and Corporate State was much more secular, with an irreligion rate of 32.37% and 15.02% before the fall of the latter. Although Aguya once had the Aguyan Christian Church as its state religion, it was not prominent in the public sphere and only served to support the ruling NSF rather than be a full-fledged denomination. Irreligion rates plummeted after the Hope-Autumn dynasty imposed Roman Catholicism on the population. Catholicism holds considerable influence on the populace.

Languages
Aguya's national languages are English and Aguyan. English is the spoken by over 90% of the population and replaced Aguyan as the native language of most Aguyans. Aguyan is the second most spoken language, with approximately 28% of the population speaking it. Aguyan was once the predominantly spoken language in the country, however it fell into disuse nationwide following the fall of the Corporate State due to its unnecessarily complex characteristic as 'reverse German' and due to the ease-of-use of the English language. Traditional Aguyan names still continue to be used however, such as in the names of provinces that comprise the Aguya region.
