The Grand Duchy of Carolias is a large, orderly nation, renowned for its state-planned economy, restrictive gun laws, and suspicion of poets. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 90 million Carolians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The medium-sized, moralistic, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 30.3%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Caroliasian economy, worth 3.77 trillion Caruls a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is fairly diversified, is led by the Woodchip Exports industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Furniture Restoration. Shoppers have literally had their hands full since plastic bags were banned, many believe that Leader's head is big enough for the sun to orbit around it, increasing numbers of children in Carolias have different eye and hair color to their supposed fathers, and light entertainment shows are light on actual entertainment. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Carolias's national animal is the red fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
