The two-week deadline had finally passed with no official response from either government. As the clock struck 6pm, the call would be given. Soviet tanks rolled pass the Soviet-Iranian border from Azerbaijan into Iran. Tank divisions would blitz through the Ardabil and Gilan regions, hoping to make it to the start of Freeway 2 before reinforcements arrived. Soviet tanks would take the cities of Zanjan, Khalkhal, and Rasht. At the same time, Soviet troops and tanks in Turkmenistan would cross the border, quickly being able to encircle the heavily defended cities of Mashhad and Shahrud. They would advance towards Tehran and attempt to occupy Iran's road networks, with the aim of obstructing any MANSAB counterattack, making MANSAB use back roads which were easier to bomb and less costly towards a swift end to the war. The Soviets would easily be able to advance to Isfahan and Birjand this way with minimal casualties.
The Soviets would also attempt to secure air superiority which was super easy due to the incredibly weak and poorly equipped air force of MANSAB. This allowed the Soviets to go on daily carpet bombing runs of Iranian towns, destroying important infrastructure and wearing down Iranian support towards the war. While the morality of this tactic was questioned by many Soviets, the Soviet air force high command would continue doing it with no resistance.
(half-assed post but whatever)

The Soviet Onions and the Baltics wrote:Invasion of Iran Pt.2 / The Fall of Tehran // Middle East // 2122 probably The Soviet tanks would continue down Iran's road network, eventually making it to the Persian Gulf after taking the city of Bandar Abbas. With most of Iran's freeways under the control of Soviet forces, all the Soviets would need to do is destroy the remains of the MANSAB army stuck in pockets all across Iran. More troops would flood into Iran to clean up the troops still fighting. One by one, the pockets surrendered by force or by laying down their arms. After the surrender of the majority of the pockets, the Soviets would refocus their attention towards Tehran, where a significant portion of the MANSAB army had been defending the city. As the Soviets entered made it to the outskirts of the city, heavy firefights broke out across the frontline as MANSAB troops attempted to break through Soviet lines. The tank divisions had much more success in making it to the city, managing to advance to Shahrak-e-Vali-e-Asr before being stopped by heavy resistance. As the Soviets forces clashed with MANSAB troops, an opening appeared in the Western portion of the city near Mehrabad International Airport, thousands of Soviet infantry would swiftly squeeze through the opening. The MANSAB troops would be caught off guard and would attempt to fall back to stabilize the line, but it was already too late. The Soviets would blitz through the suburbs, taking out large amounts of MANSAB troops as they attempted to evacuate the area. The Soviets eventually took control of the airport, letting crucial supplies enter the city. As the MANSAB front lines collapsed, the Soviets would break through again. This time in the eastern portion of the city, they made it to the Chaharsad Dastgah under heavy fire by the Iranians, the parliamentary building was in sight which contained most of the MANSAB high command. The Iranians would defend the parliamentary building with their lives but eventually, the Soviets broke through their lines and managed to surround the parliamentary building.
After hours of negotiations between the Soviet army and MANSAB, MANSAB surrendered with the precondition that their officials would be released under the protection of the Soviet army and brought into safety. But as the Soviet army left the city, they rounded up the MANSAB officials in an isolated location in the Rig-e Jenn desert before slaughtering them all. Hundreds of top MANSAB leaders and officials were gunned down by Soviet troops and left to rot in the scorching desert heat.
(to be more realistic, I'm just gonna say this took around a few months to happen instead of the 1 irl day = 1 rp week thing or whatever it is)
The Soviets weren't done though. The remainder of the mobilized army, still awaiting orders in the Caucasus, would be ordered to move to the now much larger Soviet-West Asian border but to wait for the deadline set by Premier Federov.

You realize how unrealistic this is. Iran is a super mountainous country and it’s difficult to traverse even with modern equipment. Same thing with Afghanistan. And with the Soviets little knowledge of the terrain it would be impossible for them to gain damn near half the country in 2 posts. My plan was to continue the Africa rp with HJ then take like 10 posts to flesh out the invasion. Hell even the Australia war is taking while and they’re a plains country but the logistics to take an entire country which is big, mountainous and riddled with terrorist guerrillas is just nonexistent

That's why I started the invasion by only taking Irans road network just like the Soviets did in Afghanistan during the Cold War. Iran's road network is literally designed to make the travel around their mountain ranges a lot easier which is why I exploited it. I will admit the rest of the invasion is pretty unrealistic which is my bad since I made the 2nd post at like 8AM when I had just woken up, and I just wanted to get the invasion over with.
Also, the reason you're still fighting a war in Australia is because you haven't done jackshit with your civil war other than a couple of posts you made like a month ago. Australia is a super flat country, so I don't see the reason it would take so long other than maybe trying to traverse the outback. But that's only because temperatures there reach like 95-105°F on most days.
