This goes against everything thought to be certain - the firewall against the right has been broken down. Your stance is poison to most voters, SPD and Greens rule you out as chancellor in return, and even the FDP might be a hard sell now. The AfD is tempted by the prospect of power, but you’re a dubious personality to them.
“Dear viewers, we can now project that the CDU/CSU under Markus Söder has seemingly won this election.”
Despite the polls tightening at several points, you’ve fought with grit and determination. It was a bit touch and go - but despite these difficulties, you maintained a solid lead throughout the election night and ultimately emerged as the winner. There is some discontent over the number of votes you've lost compared to the previous election, but, as they say: “It's as good as it gets!”! Finally, the CSU is ready to take over the reigns of power. Be careful though: you have the people’s mandate on your side, but you do still need to form a government. It’s time to form a coalition - hopefully one with a workable majority.
“Total Chaos - No Majority On The Sixth Ballot”
When you expressed your interest in forming a novelty Bahamas coalition during the campaign, there was outrage. You expected it, but that’s the way the country was headed, you told yourself. When you started the negotiations, the outrage only grew and grew, with several prominent Christian Democrats denouncing you, even leaving the party. The FDP immediately slumped in polls. With a lot of grit and determination, you’ve managed to forge a coalition agreement nonetheless. In theory, this should be it, but there’s one small problem - as ballot after ballot fails to produce a majority for you as chancellor, it’s clear: this won’t do. You won’t do. Since the ballots are secret, there’s no certainty if it’s the Union and FDP’s moderates, or extremists of the AfD, who are sabotaging you. The Bundestag becomes the scene of shouting matches not seen since the 1970s, as the streets of Berlin and other major cities are engulfed in demonstrations, sparingly turning violent, as scathing editorials eviscerate you in the press. And with all this, you don’t even get vindication.
Eventually, after it becomes clear that you won't be able to get a majority, an alliance of SPD, Greens and moderates from the Union and FDP, elect CDU Minister-President Daniel Günther of Schleswig-Holstein as somewhat of an interim chancellor. He is seen as a more moderate figure, but his new role for now consists of nothing more than stabilizing the country, until the inevitable new elections. The Bahamas-Trio is at a breaking point, and there's chatter of a new centrist party getting formed by the members who voted for Günther, while the Free Voters surge in polling just as much. After this disaster, you've lost the trust of all wings of the party. It’s only a few days until you resign CSU leadership, disgraced. Enjoy your retirement - history will not look kindly on you, Mr. Söder. “Da Deife häifd seine Leit - aba hoin duad a's aa.”
