 The Serene State of Quebecshire | Statement from the Office of the Consulate on the Closure of Embassies with The Union of Democratic States I find it deeply unfortunate that the UDS has chosen to close embassies with us over disagreements with our region's moderation policy. Yesterday, I was contacted by the UDS President about our region's "culture and moderation policy" as well as to see if there were "improvements." My response was the following,
Any unironic, serious, or abusive uses of such words or connotations to them are swiftly met with deletions and warns, leading up to more severe punishments. Rules 4, 6, and 7 most directly address this. The n word in any abusive or hard r usage is not tolerated whatsoever. Neither is the bundle of sticks word. The culture you are referring to doesn't exist. We put in regular work to ensure this is a free yet also safe and welcoming environment. I would encourage you to refocus your efforts to the actual pockets of racism and discrimination on this website, which we have consistently stood against. While I understand you have nothing but reasonable and pleasant intentions, I can assure you I know my region's culture in a more contextualized way and that the above is accurate. The President then asked for evidence of us enforcing the prohibition of the uses I mentioned, and I showed him infraction logs from Bones and Lovelton. The President then changed the topic to inquiring the defintion of slurs and asking why joking usage of certain (not all, whatsoever, plenty of terms and usages are not allowed in our region) terms are allowed. They also asked if a moderate policy on the matter would, in my opinion, "breed a community where it's very likely that the use of said slurs will be abused?" My response was the following,

So not, it wouldn't, in my opinion, because it's diligently regulated. The President did not respond to me again following that conversation until this afternoon, informing me of a non-negotiable embassy closure. I responded to it with this brief statement, I find it deeply saddening and unfortunate that the UDS is more concerned with jestful statements than the legitimately reactionary forces on NationStates, which we have time and again worked against. A partnership of three years is being squandered because you dislike our moderation policy of "as long as it's not abusive or hateful, and the recipient of the language is comfortable with it, we won't punish them." Additionally, I find it concerning that the UDS is withdrawing on false pretenses, as hateful behavior is not tolerated here. Clearly, there is a severe misinterpretation of our policy in the UDS. Harassment and discrimination are not tolerated (rule 6), abusive and unbecoming behavior is not tolerated (rule 7) and otherwise unsafe behavior is not tolerated (rule 4). We have a regional police force specifically set up to enforce these rules a moderation system through our bot to punish repeat offenders. Offending material is taken down. What is not met with disciplinary action is obviously joking, satirical, and ironic material that is not abusive which the author AND the recipient(s) are comfortable with. If the recipient is uncomfortable and that has not yet been made clear by them, they may DM a government official or use the channel specifically created for reporting infraction-worthy behavior to our moderation team. The Consulate finds it troubling that this policy is being misinterpreted to such an extent. Hate, flaming, discrimination, and harassment are in no way tolerated. People who walk this line or cross it are given special moderation protocols or met with more severe punishments. Plenty of examples of this can be cited. The Consulate also finds it to be a lapse in priority that the UDS sees it fit to sever a partnership of over three years over misinterpretations, particularly one with a region that has taken an active role in working against regions that do allow hate and discrimination (specifically the League's operations in opposition to Farkasfalka). The LCN and UDS have had a beneficial partnership (ranging from defending operations to Secretary-General elections) since the days of FORGE and our military leadership under Andrew du, and I have had a particularly cordial professional relationship with That said, we wish the UDS the best in its future endeavours, and would be open to a re-introduction of cooperation, but we nonetheless admit that it seems unlikely if the misrepresentation of our regional culture were to continue and if more effective and understand dialogue were not established.
