The Commonwealth of New Astronia is a gargantuan, genial nation, ruled by Chancellor Skywalker with a fair hand, and notable for its digital currency, irreverence towards religion, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, democratic population of 10.345 billion New Astronians love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The large government prioritizes Education, with Healthcare, Administration, and Welfare also on the agenda, while Spirituality is ignored. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Coruscant. The average income tax rate is 50.6%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The large but underdeveloped New Astronian economy, worth 317 trillion credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Door-to-door Insurance Sales, Cheese Exports, and Retail. Average income is 30,645 credits, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Signs saying "No Poor People or Weirdoes" are common outside shops and cafés, all guns must be registered, people make a career out of medical voyeurism, and innocent defendants often plead guilty for fear of receiving a much harsher sentence before jury. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Astronia's national animal is the penguin.
