1. He didn't use a blanket term calling them all cannibals/primitives/pagans etc. He said he was glad the USSR removed those aspects when they did exist, and was also glad that the rest of the culture was preserved.

2. I'm defending him because I want to come to a logic and correct conclusion instead of shutting down the debate and preventing us from reaching a correct answer.
