Nah. I mean whether sending a factbook is the appropriate response. (It is, saves time.) More of a joke on how there isn't etiquette for this situation or that it would be weird to make rules on that as it's such an uncommon thing generally.

The flag of St Scarlett consists of a red and black bi colour fimbrated in white and defaced by a triangle containing one of the national symbols of the country. It was created as a new flag for the Haugen Matriarchy and was made by modifying the previous flag of St Scarlett. It is known in English as Vixen Flag but is more commonly known by its Skarlagen name Vixenflagg which translates directly to it's English name.

St Scarlett's first national flag consisted of a modified version of the Norwegian flag with the blue cross replaced with one in black. Since 2012 St Scarlett is the only full member of the Nordic Council to not fly a Scandinavian Cross style flag, besides St Scarlett the only other nation this is true for is associate member Greenland.

Symbolism

The flag makes use of the three national colours of red, white and black. Each of these colours has more than one meaning. The most popular meaning of the colours is that red represents the blood of the Skarlagens and their fight for independence from Norway, the black represents their strength and their military and how St Scarlett is defended, never to be ruled over by foreign powers again and the white represents purity and equality amongst the citizens of the nation. Alternate meanings are that the red represents women, the black represents men and the white represents unity between the two and of course the red can also be used to symbolise the patron saint, Scarlett. The triangle on the hoist of the flag represents both Skarlagen Fjell, Scarlett's tallest mountain and a holy site of the nation, as well as the nation's dedication to always moving forwards to the future. The vixen contained inside the triangle is the symbol of the nation's femininity and intelligence and the heart on its chest represents the now democratically elected government at the heart of the nation, always beating and keeping the nation alive while at the same time providing its citizens with love and care.

History

The islands were originally uninhabited but were claimed by the Norwegian Empire in 880. They used the empire's symbolism at this time, the raven banner. This was replaced by the Royal Standard of Norway in 1285, though this like the raven banner was not used as a national flag, but was just flown from ships and government buildings on and around the islands.

When Norway became part of the Kalmar Union, Saint Scarlett began to use the red cross on a golden background in line with the rest of the union. This was then followed by the Dannebrog after the foundation of Denmark-Norway, which was later modified to contain the Norwegian lion in the canton. This was then further modified in 1821 into the flag that Norway uses to this date and St Scarlett flew this flag until its independence in 1987, only slightly modifying the colours in 1899. Unlike Norway St Scarlett never flew the Swedish flag.

After it's independence Saint Scarlett kept the Norwegian flag with slight modifications, feeling designing an entirely new flag was an unnecessary waste of time, the time was better spent on keeping the Norwegians at bay. The flag the nation used was simply the flag of Norway with a black cross instead of blue and a different shade of red; this flag remained in use until 2012.

In 2012 Erin Redwood assumed the role of Grand Matriarch and proposed a change of flag now that peace between the islands and Norway had been ensured. The government agreed and a new flag was designed, completely unique to the flag of Norway. The Scandinavian cross remains an important part of Skarlagen culture however with multiple regional flags using this design alongside the ensign of the Skarlagen Navy, the original Norwegian style flag is also still flown by small communities around the islands.

In May of 2018 the matriarchal council was overthrown in a revolution and a new democratic government was installed along with a new constitution for the nation. This constitution called for a new flag to represent the more democratic nation on the islands. The Republican flag was introduced on the 9th of May alongside a new emblem, present on the flag. When the reformed council was established the flag was reverted to the previous design, though a small change was made and the mirror of venus was replaced with a red heart. This was then modified further on the 31st of May to make it more unique, representing a new St Scarlett.

Naval Flags

St Scarlett uses three naval ensigns. The state ensign consists of the national flag with the triangle in the hoist removed and the national emblem placed in the centre. The civil ensign is similar to the state ensign but switches the white and black stripes and includes a white anchor in the centre. The ensign of the Scarlett Naval Forces uses a thick nordic cross in the national colours, defaced with the Grand Matriarch's emblem.

St Scarlett also has a Naval Jack which is similar to the national flag but with the triangle mirrored onto the fly and the fox symbol removed.

Nah it’s not rude, it’s providing a detailed pre-written explanation for something rather than clumsily trying to type it out again without a plan.
