Hey yeah, I can give a rundown of my political system! I'll basically copy what my factbook says, and hopefully it answers your questions.

Amestrris is considered a unitary (some may say semi-unitary) presidential constitutional republic. The nation values both representation and efficiency in its governance. It is a democratic nation characterized by 3 branches of government:

Executive Branch: The head of state and supreme commander of the military of Amestrris is the President. The President commands the confidence of the Lansrat, which is the unicameral legislative body. The President also forms a cabinet known as the Presidential Synod whose members (called Ministers) serve as the chief executives of various ministries and government bodies. The President is democratically elected. The term length is 4 years, renewable (no term limits).

Legislative Branch: The legislative branch of Amestrris is known as the Lansrat. The Lansrat is a unicameral body with its members being called Capitol Delegates. Considering the principles of representation and efficiency for Amestrris, the nation implements a Hybrid Representation System. This involves allocating a baseline number of Delegates to each province (ensuring every province has a minimum representation) and then distributing additional Delegates based on population size.

More specifically, a baseline of 10 Delegates is allocated to each province to ensure every state has a minimum representation. The remaining seats are distributed proportionally based on population size. This recognizes larger provinces' greater representation needs while still providing a baseline for smaller provinces. The number of Capitol Delegates typically ranges between 150-250, with there currently being 200.

The Lansrat is led by a Speaker, with roles in proposing, debating, and voting on legislation, budget approval, confirmation of appointments, and treaty ratification. The term length of a Capitol Delegate is 5 years.

Judicial Branch: The judiciary of Amestrris is comrpised of a Supreme Court (as well as appellate courts and other lower courts). Members of the Supreme Court are called Arbiters. The Supreme Court consists of 7 Arbiters, with one being appointed Chief Arbiter. The Constitution of Amestrris is the supreme law of the land.

Oh, oops, forgot to reply to this. Hmm, I'm not sure how to gauge what would be fair. I would like to expand westward though, but I do like my nation's shape :P Maybe I'll wait to see how other nations place on the map first, then I will decide on an expansion (or not), if that's ok.

Yeah sorry! The letter would have been sent beforehand, I didn't realize I complicated it by splitting the timeline there xD That sounds good to me, we can keep it as it is and in my next post (will do that soon), I'll reconcile the timeline into one lol. And sure I'll also explain my political system. Basically, it's a copy/inspired by Gilead from Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood lol. In my version, it goes like this...

Ghilead was formed in the aftermath of a coup d'état 25 years ago, where the Sons of Ghilead, a religious extremist group, seize power and overthrow the United States of Abadon (USA) government (which was a previously democratic, western-style nation). Using a state of emergency and widespread fear, the group suspends the constitution and establishes a theocratic regime based on their interpretation of Christian principles. They consolidate power, suppress opposition, and implement strict social and gender hierarchies, leading to the formation of the oppressive political structure seen now. The society of Ghilead is rooted in a reactionary response to perceived moral decline, a fertility crisis and social chaos in the preceding era. So, it's basically a theocratic and authoritarian state that has replaced the USA. The political structure is characterized by a strict hierarchy, with power concentrated in the hands of a theocratic regime led by the Sons of Ghilead. The government is heavily influenced by a fundamentalist interpretation of Christianity, which is used to justify a rigid social order.

The head of state is the High Commander, who appoints his own cabinet of Commanders to govern over the states (known as the Council of Commanders). The current High Commander is voted in by the previous High Commander's cabinet of Commanders upon his death, and this selection is often pre-ordained and pre-determined; it's known as "Spiritual Appointment". This ensures that the inner circle members of the Son's of Ghilead solidify their power, and to select their own government implement their own agendas. The number and identity of Commanders may vary, depending on the decisions of the High Commander. Commanders (and by extension, the High Commander) can only ever be male, as women are subservient to men and shall never hold positions of office, nor any form of power. Below them are various levels of government officials and enforcers, including the Eyes, who serve as the secret police. The society is divided into rigid classes, with women being particularly oppressed. The society is marked by extreme control, surveillance, and the suppression of dissent, creating a dystopian and oppressive political structure.

NOTE though that I don't think I want Ghilead to remain this way through the course of RPing in Sunalaya. I want it to eventually be reformed/taken back by democracy through some sort of revolution or liberation, but I haven't quite determined how that will go. Perhaps through RP I can develop that story arch for Ghilead. Up until now, Ghilead was isolationist since the coup and tried to be self-reliant and move back to traditional ways, but the corrupt elite are finding that the economy is becoming more and more stretched/weak. Not to mention mass international sanctions since the coup and subsequent crimes against humanity. Now, Ghilead is realizing the importance of international relations and trade, and is trying to desperately navigate what to do and how to balance how to act for the international community and manipulate it to get what it wants, while still maintaining its iron fist.

I'm glad it helps :) I edited my response with the description because I forgot to mention that Amestrris is a democratic, free nation, but the President does not have term limits (theoretically, they can serve for life, but there are still term lengths of 4 years, so there are still elections). I read your factbooks to get a sense/refresh myself on Smoya but feel free to let us know anything you think we should especially pay attention to:) I'll be crafting a response for the Dinner soon :D

Overall, I just shifted the border a bit west. On the top half of the western border, I kept the exact same border shape and then just altered the shape on the bottom half of it. Let me know if it works for you :D Also hope I can keep my lil lake lol. I couldn't fill the top in/finish the top part of the border because my own image was cutoff there, haha. I'll let you decide how it terminates:P

Cool! I also enjoyed your post :) I'm very curious to learn more about Herbora and these "questionable circumstances" it joined you under lol. Sounds interesting. I sense a Sunalayan history and former international relations that I wasn't a part of, so it's hard to envision your nations and what events must have taken place in this region. I guess fleshing that out again is part of the fun in roleplaying lol :D

I'm also wondering, and maybe Smoya can help, but I figure (obviously) at some point in the RP, our leaders will have actual dialogue with one another. How should that go? For example, if I want to have an exchange with the Smoyan leader, could I write a draft of a post, then telegram it to you Smoya to see what you think of it and if you approve of how your leader was portrayed, or if you have any edits you'd like me to add before posting it? Then, if you approve of how I portray the exchange, I would post it in the RP and you would reply accordingly and in the same manner? Sorry if this is an obvious question lol...
