Happy Flag Day Texas! For those who may be unaware, Flag Day is a patriotic day specifically celebrating the Flag. It is believed to have first originated in 1885 to honor the "Flag Birthday" on the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes. This celebration caught on over the years gradually moving south and east (it started in Wisconsin). Inspired by these three decades of state and local celebrations, Flag Day - the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 - was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. However, it was not until August 3rd, 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day. It is not a non-work holiday but is a patriotic day nonetheless. Yay! Flag! Yay!
Please pray for a matching Donor Heart for my Dad so he's able to have his Heart Transplant surgery as soon as possible. His Syncardia Total Artificial Heart is being powered by a Freedom Portable Driver that he’s got to carry everywhere with him in a backpack. I'm really glad this mechanical heart is keeping my Dad alive but it’s really noisy, the noise is incessant and it’s driving me nuts. So please pray for my Dad to receive a Heart Transplant soon and he won't need this noisy mechanical life support to keep him alive.
Quotes of the Day: “Achievement comes to those who look for opportunities and then seize the moment with unwavering zeal.” - Glenn Van Ekeren, Words for All Occasions
“For achievement comes to those who look ahead with imagination and then faithfully perform every small act as a part of the larger vision.” - Gerald Kennedy, The Parables
“Meanwhile, hard work trumps talent, and achievement comes to those who endure.” - Mathew A White, Gavin R. Slemp, A. Simon Murray, Future Directions in Well-Being

National Fudge Day
National Fudge Day comes around each year on June 16th, allowing you to indulge in your favorite flavor of this delicious confectionery. Some of the most familiar fudge flavors are chocolate, chocolate nut, peanut butter, maple, and maple nut.
Fudge lends itself to experimentation when it comes to flavors. Blending favorites or even a moment of inspiration will create a new delicious kind of fudge. Adding bits of candy, nuts, or sprinkles on National Fudge Day can bring just the right celebratory burst of excitement to an old favorite.
When is National Penuche Fudge Day?
In the late 19th century, some shops on Mackinac Island, Michigan, began to produce similar products as the Vassar College fudge and sold it to summer vacationers. Fudge is still made in some of the original shops located on the famous island.
Three other fudge holidays entice us to celebration, too. Check out May 12th to celebrate all those nutty fudges. July 22nd marks Penuche Fudge Day. Finally, on November 20th, we celebrate Peanut Butter Fudge Day.
HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalFudgeDay Pick up some fudge at your local confectionery store and share it with family and friends. Here is a great fudge recipe if you feel like making your own. Use #NationalFudgeDay on social media.
NATIONAL FUDGE DAY HISTORY The origins of this confectionery holiday, National Fudge Day, is currently being researched by the team at National Day Calendar.

well you could have your daughter snap back with what would you rather have 200,000-300,000 dead or 1,000,000+ dead with millions more horribly injured.
Quotes of the Day: “Star Trek was an attempt to say that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. […] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.” ― Gene Roddenberry
“An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while the pessimist sees only the red stoplight. The truly wise person is colorblind.” - Albert Schweitzer

National Nursing Assistants’ Week
Every year, on the first day of National Nursing Assistants’ Week, we observe National Career Nurse Assistants’ Day. On this day, we recognize all nursing assistants who dedicate their lives to the well-being of others, whether it’s been 5 years or 58 years of service.
Nursing assistants work in hospitals and nursing homes alike, performing everyday living tasks for the elderly, chronically ill, or rehabilitation patients who cannot care for themselves. Of course, nursing assistants require in-depth training to gain the necessary qualifications to cover a wide scope of responsibilities. The American Red Cross, as well as other providers, provide classes to study for nursing assistants. Although states may distribute CNA certification exams, their certification follows a standard set of qualifications created by the government.
Career Nursing Assistants also play a host of roles in the lives of residents in nursing homes, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. Amazingly, they often assist people to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible. In addition, a CNA provides essential support for patient needs. This includes promoting mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, too.
HOW TO OBSERVE #CareerNurseAssistantsDay Take time to thank a CNA for the care they provide by leaving them a thank you note. Whether it’s in a nursing home, in-home care, or another facility, a CNA commits to provide quality care for the elderly. Of course, there are other ways to express your appreciation. Some of these ideas include:
Giving a gift card to a local coffee shop. Delivering a fruit basket. Making homemade cookies or other treats. Giving a word of praise to their administration. Use #CareerNurseAssistantsDay to share on social media.
NATIONAL CAREER NURSE ASSISTANTS’ DAY HISTORY National Network of Career Nursing Assistants sponsors National Career Nurse Assistants Day, respectively. Since 1977, they promote National Nursing Assistants Training Week by encouraging communities to show support and appreciation to the professionals who provide quality elderly care.

Wear BLUE Day
Men’s health is the focus of Wear BLUE Day on June 14th. By wearing blue, you are saying you support the men in your life to lead a healthy lifestyle, and you care about their well-being.
As part of the campaign that includes Men’s Health Month and Men’s Health Week in June, Wear BLUE Day encourages us to take stock of our health choices and become more aware of health risks. Men are more likely to skip health checkups than women. At the same time, they are more likely to take chances with their health choices. The three leading causes of death for mean according to the Centers for Disease Control are cancer, heart disease, and accidents.
The Wear BLUE Campaign provides an opportunity for employers, communities, and other organizations to hold events to raise awareness about concerns surrounding men’s health and how they can take charge. The day is also a way for loved ones to show their encouragement for the men in their lives.
HOW TO OBSERVE #WearBlueDay Sponsor a Wear BLUE fundraiser to raise money for prostate cancer or to provide education about diabetes, heart disease, or stroke. To find out more, visit www.menshealthnetwork.org. When it comes to getting healthy or staying there, sometimes a checklist helps. We created a list of 7 Simple Ways to Improve Health that will put you in the mood to wear blue.
As you take part, be sure to use #WearBlueDay to share on social media.
7 Simple Ways to Improve Health
It may not seem simple to find ways to improve health, but it is possible. If you are not a very healthy person, you are certainly not alone. According to recent statistics, less than 3 percent of Americans live a healthy lifestyle. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to become a healthier person.
Here are 7 simple ways to improve your health.
1. Lose A Little Weight You don’t have to lose a lot of weight to improve your health. In fact, health experts say that losing just 10 percent of your body weight has many benefits. These benefits include:
Raise your HDL (good cholesterol) by 5 points Reduce your risk of cancer Get better sleep Lower your chances of diabetes Improve your mood It is much easier to lose weight when you focus on losing a smaller amount, rather than setting a huge goal.
2. Quit Smoking Many people who smoke understand that it is harmful to their health. It might be difficult, but if you quit smoking you can reverse damage to your heart, stop lung damage, and improve your immune system.
3. Exercise Regularly You don’t have to exercise every day to improve your health. Exercising at least 3 times a week lowers your risk of developing certain health problems. Regular exercise also helps you maintain and improve your body’s range of motion, balance, and flexibility.
4. Practice Proper Dental Care When you take care of your teeth, it’s not just good for your oral health. Proper dental care is good for your overall health as well. According to the Mayo Clinic, proper dental care helps keep harmful bacteria from entering into your digestive and respiratory tracts.
Some conditions that are linked to poor oral health include:
Endocarditis Cardiovascular disease Pregnancy complications Pneumonia When you brushing your teeth a couple of times a day and floss once a day, you can lower your risk of these diseases. It’s also beneficial to keep up with routine dental exams.
5. Eat a Healthy Diet If you want to lose weight, you will want to consider cutting the number of calories you consume each day. You can accomplish this by eating a well-balanced diet. Besides weight loss, other benefits of eating a healthy diet include better heart health, a reduced chance of stroke, improved gut health, healthier muscles and bones, and diabetes prevention. The healthiest diets consist of a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as lean meats, and limited amounts of saturated fats.
6. Reduce Stress Stress takes a huge toll on the body. It can cause a multitude of ailments including:
Headaches Insomnia Heartburn Weakened immune system High blood sugar Increased risk of heart attack High blood pressure Tense muscles It might seem impossible for you to reduce stress, but doing so could greatly benefit your health. Some ways to manage your stress include massage therapy, exercise, journaling, prayer, laughter, soothing music, and time spent with friends and family.
7. Keep Up with Routine Exams The best way to detect cancer and other serious illnesses is to keep up with your routine exams. When cancer and certain illnesses are diagnosed early, the treatment is oftentimes more effective. For women, routine exams include pap smears, mammograms, and bone density screenings. Men over 50 should get a fecal occult blood test. Routine tests for both men and women include blood pressure screening, cholesterol check, blood glucose tests, and colon cancer screening.

A similar conversation was had. Didn't go well. A lot like challenging a zealot's religious views. I got her a different teacher, filed a formal complaint with the board (which went nowhere).
That whole thing about giving a former KGB officer (Not that there really is such a thing as a former KGB officer) a list of the cyber targets we are most worried about has to take the cake for the most boneheaded move of the summit. Talk about a rookie mistake.
It is a tribute to Putin's statesmanship that he didn't take the opportunity to rub Biden's nose in the gaffe by handing it back with words to the effect of, "These are the systems you should harden first." But then again, if your enemy is making foolish mistakes, only a fool would stop them.
Remember back in the 70's when the experts were warning us about the coming ice age? Those were the days.
It was bound to happen with the slow down in vaccines, corporate is cutting back on our hours after next week. It will be nice to have a bit more down time, but the extra pay didn't hurt.
Some days, I just want to stay in bed and not get up for the entire day ... Please pray to God to give me a break. I will fight to my last breath to stay alive but I am so tired. :(

Juneteenth
The story of Juneteenth begins in Texas when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865, with an announcement. As the community listened to the reading of General Orders, Number 3, the people of Galveston learned for the first time that the Civil War was over. After more than a century of slavery and years of war, it was official. All slaves were now freedmen.
“…the 19th of June wasn’t the exact day the Negro was freed. But that’s the day they told them that they was free… And my daddy told me that they whooped and hollered and bored holes in trees with augers and stopped it up with [gun] powder and light and that would be their blast for the celebration.” – Haye Turner, former slave.
News traveled slowly, even stubbornly during and after the War between the States. Over two years earlier, President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State William H. Seward signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Only two months before Major General Granger arrived in Galveston, General Lee surrendered at Appomattox. And the country was already mourning the assassination of President Lincoln. Just weeks before Granger arrived, the official final surrender took place. And yet, this community in the west remained the last to know of their freedom. They required word, official word, to feel the effects of what was already happening in the rest of the country.
Emancipation Timeline January 1, 1863 – Emancipation Proclamation signed April 9, 1865 – General Robert E. Lee surrenders to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia April 14, 1865 – John Wilkes Booth assassinates President Abraham Lincoln – Lincoln dies April 15, 1865 May 12, 1865 – Final battle of Civil War at Palmito Ranch, Texas (Confederate victory) May 26, 1865 – Civil War officially ends when General Simon Bolivar Buckner of the Army of Trans-Mississippi enters terms of surrender June 19, 1865 – Major General Gordon Granger arrives in Galveston, Texas December 6, 1865 – 13th Amendment abolishing slavery ratified August 20, 1866 – President Andrew Johson proclaims conflict officially resolved and peace restored
The Spread of Juneteenth Chiefly, the celebration of Juneteenth grew from the profound experiences that day when many learned of their freedom. From that freedom, it grew out of the surmounting challenges that lay ahead. And it continues to grow from the perseverance required and the dignity to overcome adversity and achieve fulfillment.
Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day
Year after year, waves of people pilgrimaging to Galveston stand in one of the last places to receive the news. The celebrations spread much like the news spread to Galveston about freedom, slowly at first and then picking up speed. But Galveston isn’t the only place celebrations take place. Juneteenth Jubilees happen all over the country and world. In 2015, Juneteenth celebrated its 150th anniversary and celebrations spread around the globe.
In the U.S., 48 states officially recognize the observance. North Dakota most recently made the observance official in 2021. The Hawaii legislature passed SB939 to include Juneteenth as a state observance. As of April 29, 2021, the bill is in Governor Ige’s hands. The remaining state, South Dakota, passed SB71 in support of legally recognizing the holiday in 2021. However, the bill failed in the House at the beginning of March.
While the celebration is not a federal holiday, presidents have either remarked on the observance or released full messages specific to Juneteenth for the last two decades. However, no single president has proclaimed the observance, even for a single year.

National FreeBSD Day on June 19th commemorates the launch date of an innovative technology that many of us use every day.
The open-source operating system called FreeBSD developed out of the University of California at Berkley in 1993. Billions of people around the globe use FreeBSD to teach operating system concepts in universities. Companies also develop products on FreeBSD, and universities use it as a research platform.
While you may not be familiar with FreeBSD, there’s a good chance you’re already using at least some code derived from it in your everyday life. For example, do you stream movies via Netflix? How about chat with friends on WhatsApp? Maybe you play the latest PlayStation 4 game sensation. If so, you’re already using FreeBSD.
As a pioneer in open-source technology, users can modify and redesign FreeBSD to meet their needs, free of charge within the guidelines of the license. Through a network of users, the software keeps pace with today’s technology and prepares us for what’s ahead.
HOW TO OBSERVE #FreeBSDDay Learn more about FreeBSD, its history, and its applications at www.freebsd.org. Share your experiences with FreeBSD. While exploring the possibilities, join the discussion using #FreeBSDDay on social media.
NATIONAL FreeBSD DAY HISTORY FreeBSD Foundation founded National FreeBSD Day to recognize its pioneering and continuing impact on technology and honor its legacy. Commemorating the launch date of FreeBSD, June 19th, was selected.
On June 15, 2017, the Registrar at National Day Calendar declared the day to be officially observed on June 19th, annually.
Each year on June 19th, National Garfield the Cat Day celebrates the fictional cartoon character, Garfield. Jim Davis created the comic strip Garfield and the title’s protagonist, a tabby cat by the same name. The observance celebrates Garfield and the entertainment he brings us.
Garfield launched on June 19, 1978. The strip chronicled the life of the lead character, the cat Garfield (named after Jim Davis ’s grandfather). It also introduced Garfield’s owner, Jon Arbuckle and Jon’s dog, Odie. The publication became syndicated in 2013 in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals and holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip.
Garfield was one of the cartoon characters to appear in Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue.
Set in Muncie, Indiana, common themes in the comic strip include Garfield’s laziness, obsessive eating, love for lasagna and coffee, and hatred of Mondays and diets. While the focus is mostly upon the interaction between Garfield, Jon, and Odie, the strip introduces other characters as well.
HOW TO OBSERVE #GarfieldTheCatDay There are many ways to celebrate the lovable tabby cat! Garfield fans everywhere share the tabby cat’s love of lasagna or contempt for Mondays. But beyond that, they also know he loves to sleep in sunbeams. They’re fond of his sense of humor and understand Jon’s love of animals. In a world of cat lovers, this day offers some fun ways to celebrate.
Bake some cookies or cupcakes for Garfield’s birthday. Read the comic strip. Watch a Garfield episode. Share your Garfield collectibles. Take selfies with your tabby cat. See how many Garfields you can name (that aren’t a cat). Pick up a Garfield coloring book. Share your favorite comic strip by using #GarfieldTheCatDay on social media.
NATIONAL GARFIELD THE CAT DAY HISTORY National Garfield The Cat Day was first celebrated in 1998 on the 20th anniversary of the comic strip and Garfield’s birthday. Boca Raton City Council Member, Wanda Thayer, proclaimed June 19th as Garfield the Cat Day during surprise birthday party at the International Museum of Cartoon Art in Boca Raton.

***** Texas Chat Reminder *****
The Texas Weekly Chat Session will be Saturday (TODAY) at High Noon Texas Time (CDT) ***Saturday***. And, if you can't be there right at Noon, that is Ok, Texas Chat usually runs 3, 4, 5 hours with some Chats running as high as 7 or 8 hours.
The Texas Chat Site is here: http://texasregion.net/blab70/login.php
Please register with your nation name. This is a great opportunity for nations old and new to Texas to find out what is going on! We chat, we debate, we talk about the weather, we talk about stuff we like, stuff we hate, random stuff, and more stuff. But, it is never stuffy. Usually, it is about meeting your fellow Texans and talking about the latest and most interesting stuff in NationStates at the moment. But then again, sometimes NationStates does not even come up. It is wide-open chatting with peeps from around The World both IRL and NS. It is Texans, EuroTexans, WannabeTexans, ex-Texans, VirtualTexans, and plenty of Friends of Texans. We have it all and all are welcome. Texas Chat, 844 weeks and running! For the math-challenged, that is over 16¾ years! Check it out! Good stuff!
Happy Juneteenth Texas! For those who are unaware, Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday in the United States honoring African American heritage by commemorating the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the United States. Slavery was abolished in 1862 in the United States and went into effect in 1863. However, Texas was a little behind in enacting it and did not get to it until 1865 when 2,000 federal troops showed up at Galveston Island to enforce it. As of the day before yesterday, it is now celebrated as a Federal Holiday in all 50 states in the U.S. as well as in many former British colonies in the Caribbean on various days of the year.
Happy Father’s Day to every Dad in Texas especially Verner my lord, whom I still consider to be the Greatest Husband and Best Dad in the Whole World. <3
I’d like to thank every Texan father on Father’s Day for being a good father and having a caring, loving and positive influence in your family’s life. I’m sure your family appreciated your love for them and everything you’ve done for them. As for Verner my lord, our sons and I are grateful for your continued loving presence and support in our lives. <3
Today's Sunday Surprise Beverage is Father’s Day Make - Your - Own - Beverage Day! I've got lots of Large Boxes full of drink making ingredients stacked up right here and I'm going to beam them directly into the home of every Texan in Texas. Everyone will receive a Large Box and it'll materialize on the table closest to you. With all the drink ingredients in your box you can make Virgin Banana Daiquiris, Tiki Punches and Hazelnut Affogatos. There's enough ingredients to make 3 glasses of each drink. You can keep the Instructional Guide CD as my gift to you:
When blending drinks in your blender always add your ice at the end so it doesn't jam up the blender. Also if you've got alcohol in your house and you desire an alcoholic drink just mix your own booze into the beverages.
And today I've included 2 large containers full of:
1. Figs-in-a-Blanket with Goat Cheese, Brie, Camembert and Parmesan Cheese. Spicy, honey-glazed figs are balanced by creamy Goat Cheese, Brie, Camembert and Parmesan Cheese and buttery puff pastry in this tasty vegetarian version of pigs-in-a-blanket.
2. Ultimate Nachos. Layered with pinto bean dip, sliced jalapeños, and cheese, these nachos blow any other versions out of the water.
in everyone’s Box.
I hope y'all enjoy today's Sunday Surprise Snack and Beverages. Happy Father’s Day. Yeehaw! :)
as a person who has lived in florida for 11 out of 12 years of my life, i must ask not only how many times yall in texas get red lights, but also how long are they

Hi all,
I've got good news and a prayer request.
Good news:
We were informed early yesterday morning that there's a matching Donor Heart for Verner. He has undergone his Heart Transplant surgery, the surgery went well and he pulled through and survived. This morning, he has regained consciousness and even through he still requires supplemental oxygen, he's now able to breathe on his own and has been weaned from the ventilator.
Prayer request:
Please pray for Verner's full recovery without any complications and for God to strengthen his newly transplanted heart so it'll be strong enough to keep him alive for many years to come. Our sons and I love him and need his continuous presence in our lives. Your prayers are appreciated by our family and we're gratefully thanking everyone of you in advance for your prayers. <3
