"It is a matter of safety, of security. Knowledge is powerful and dangerous. If it gets in the wrong hands, terrible things could happen."

"A Sorcerer Orb is what Sorcerers are trapped in. You remember what Sorcerer Maven was trapped in, right? That little ball? That was a Sorcerer Orb. Of course, in his case, there were a lot of extra protections in place, including another Sorcerer and a large outer shell. Usually though, it is just the small orb, hidden away, locking away the Sorcerer forever - or at least that was the case, until I came along and escaped. I'm the first ever to do so."

"Well, I... I'm actually not sure."

Brigit looks around the room at the other girls thoughtfully.
"We could transform this place, but—"

Before she can finish speaking a clamor arises from at least five of them, protesting that this is their home, their lives, and everything they know. And as Kat puts it, Jonathan had promised he wasn't shutting them down.

"...yeah, no one wants that. There really isn't that much empty space back in these slums," she shrugs. "There's one freshly emptied apartment some distance that way, but it's less than ideal for teaching people."

Shockingly, it's Father Prunty who offers a solution. His words issuing from the shadowed corner where he had nearly been forgotten startle more than a few of the people in the room, but everyone recovers quickly enough.
"I suppose you could use my study chambers. They're well stocked and relatively close to the alleyway we entered through. The surrounding area may be a little... disliked by some of you though."

(just a cool suit for now)

Celeste bobs her head happily.
"Pretty much. I've got a proper suit and everything for the rare occasion I actually need to dress conservatively. Fortunately that almost never happens."

She considers for a moment.
"Oh, and of course I do sometimes enjoy pulling on a heavy suit of armor, but there's usually one of these underneath."

Gazing at Katrina from the side and smiling to herself, Celeste takes another sip from her beer.
"It fits better than I expected. I suppose you can keep this one if you want?"

The Federal Republic of Rathoria

Aerlanica wrote:~snip~

High Command grinds their teeth but reluctantly gives the order to carefully pull back half of the readied forces from their staging areas. They really don't like this, but blood-thirsty Aerlanicans recommending against immediate assault are a bad omen and not to be taken lightly. The facts stacked against Rathoria are too great to ignore and this invasion needs to have a very successful start for there to be any chance of a timely victory.

Although the Directorate of Indeterminate Threats claims to have a strong idea of the Tyramonian superweapon and how to counter it, the Rathorian Assembly agrees that their information is too uncertain to act.

Demobilizing only fifty percent of the prepared troops is a calculated move designed to make the most efficient use of Rathorian soldiers. It should depopulate the "front lines" enough to prevent the Aerlanican traitors from suspecting anything, but also keep enough of a force available to react immediately should the situation change too rapidly for a stealthy rearmament.

They are, however, extremely pleased with the opportunity to have some Waste-Rangers of their own. High Command gladly dispatches another corvette to the Federation-in-exile, this time loaded with a platoon of NPN-4 operators. While not as widely recognized as Orbital Insertion Troopers or Marine Strikers, these army special forces are probably the best suited to becoming trained in hazardous environments. High Command decided the OITs are getting enough screen time in this operation already, and the Strikers are extensively trained in zero-gee combat but have little experience on land.

"Exemplary suggestion Mr Prunty, and i am sure that these unsavoury surroundings will be easily remedied."

He paused.
"Tell me, will the eternalist authorities be slightly upset in regards to this endeavour?"

Father Prunty paused.
"Well, they don't...exactly see women as needing to-"

"Splendid! i shall advertise it for both men and women!"

He looked over the girls and women.

"Er...Katherine, Anne and...Marté, we shall make an excursion out to this new establishment with Father Prunty...Mr Luthar, hold down the fort with Mr Marquis and Miss Brigit...inform various other courtesan houses that the time has come for a new and improved...i have no idea what this city is called, i am appauled."

He turned to Father Prunty.
"If you will be so kind as to fill in the blanks."

Katrina let out a little laugh. It was a beautiful laugh, and Celeste couldnt help but smile wider.
"Yeah...yeah you got me sold on this look."

She turned to Celeste and caught her looking. Katrina smirked and gave a pose.
"Tell me? what do you think?"

Rathoria wrote:-snip-

The NPN-4 platoon is directed to Shakar, specifically, a region known as the Ashlands in an Augustan translation.

Shakar itself is a craggy, windswept, mountainous planet with splotches of fertile soil clustered around vast lakes or intermingled amongst large swaths of poor ground, gravel or stone. Forests are made of tall, ashen trees with wide, flat canopies of green-brown leaves that photosynthesise in the bright light of the twin suns, and most foiliage is hardy.

There is some volcanic activity, especially in the Ashlands, which creates an awkward dynamic with the native population seemingly still transitioning away from the feudal era and into a society reminiscent of the Aerlanican Federation; since the volcanic eruptions create rich, fertile soil, but pose dangers to the large, half-goat half-human hybrids.

The NPN-4 platoon is shown to the Ashlands due to it's similarity with the Aerlanican Wastes, notwithstanding the heat. They are then met with the famous Waste-Rangers.

True to their roots, the Waste-Rangers wear large coats covered with scraps of cloth and material. This time, it is black and grey to match the volcanic rock and dust that is swept up. All the waste rangers wear gas masks, fitting due to the sandstorms that occasionally sweep through these regions.

The NPN-4 Platoon is given similar gear, before they are escorted to a camp in a relatively safe region. Every day consists either of waking up, going for an intensive run before doing rigorous exercise, then continuing their run back to the camp. That or it consists of a slew of skills Waste-Rangers deem essential.

Indeed, these are certainly scouts; Waste-Ranger recruits are taught in the ways of stealth and camouflage, sniping, scouting, spotting and likewise. They continually are forced to look at pictures and sihouettes of various planes, vehicles and spacecraft to recognise which one is friendly and what is not. They are tought firmly in various forms of problem solving, lockpicking, improvisation of equipment into tools.

It is exhaustive as the Waste-Rangers seemingly train the Rathorian recruits in their care in seemingly every skill. It is clear to see why the Waste-Rangers are not only a jack of all trades, but also why they're masters of them, and why so few even exist.

"You think they would just ignore it and move on if they did understand it? No, all too often they would use their knowledge to their own benefit. You are right that there is danger in ignorance, but it is better to have a powerless danger than a dangerous power."
