That's how we do it in Oregon! We've had a kicker on the tax refund almost every year. Mine was in the hundreds last year!

On federal taxes I used to always owe just under the penalty level on April 15. But then they redid not only taxes but also W-4 form. So now I actually expect a refund of a few hundred dollars (in part because they just allowed to deduct some charity contributions even with the standard deduction). Except that I'm not actually expecting it yet because I haven't filed. I got a $15K raise last year, and I'm waiting to see the final stimulus bill. If I don't file before they send out those $1400 checks (or perhaps some prorated amount in my case if I end up in the phase-out territory), they'll send them based on my 2019 return which was a lot smaller.

I didn't really think about the increases affecting additional stimulus checks. I made more than previous years, due to overtime hours (which nearly killed me), and that might knock me down from the full $1400 if I file now.

I'm on a salary, so there's no overtime pay. But that was the first time ever when they talked a lot about my occupation (mathematical modeling in epidemiology) on TV :-)

Wanted to say Hi. I might not be too active in the actual board, but I'll post here from time to time. My nation state ceased to exist twice, so if that happens again I won't loose much if I just do not join the WA again, or play on the messenger boards.
