The Republic of Arienitia is a large, genial nation, remarkable for its state-planned economy, compulsory military service, and irreverence towards religion. The compassionate population of 50 million Arienites are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The enormous government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 72.7%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Arienitian economy, worth 1.86 trillion pounds a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is highly specialized, is mostly made up of the Trout Farming industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing. Average income is 37,217 pounds, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

No one is quite sure what many government officials look like, factories place endangered birds in their rafters in pursuit of government protections, artists are pillars of society, and party-lovers often change religions just for the weekend. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Arienitia's national animal is the crane, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Arienitia is ranked 158,216^th in the world and 1,010^th in The Communist Bloc for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 62.29 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
