The Geraldine-o-Verse: What You Need to Know

THE PURPOSE OF THIS FACTBOOK

: Matriarch of the O'Leary clan, the craziest old lady known to mankind, the one, the only, Geraldine Kierksvarb O'Leary! Born to Marguerite O'Hanrahan and Rutger Kierksvarb as Geraldine Kierksvarb in the Millenhaalse overseas dominion of Corraghan to a seamstress and a sailor from mainland Millenhaal, it was tough growing up for Geraldine and her brother. Her father only saw his family once a year or so, and didn't send much money home. Geraldine and her brother did eventually migrate to the mainland, and that's where she started a successful career in writing. Not books, but fanfiction. She wrote prolifically for many years for a slew of many fandoms, specifically science-fiction related ones, and built up a fanbase over the years. Her writing career came to an abrupt end in the Millenhaalse Revolution against King Jens II. She eagerly joined the revolution and was granted a high-up position managing public relations. Why? She was best friends with the botanist-turned-warlord Maarkus Rozenberg, who led the revolution. They won, and Rozenberg instated her as Vice-Overseer. This continued for 2 years, until Rozenberg's party, the Liberation Union of Millenhaal, was elected out of the Twin Chambers after corruption allegations against Rozenberg saw him ousted and summarily executed by an angry mob. Geraldine took power as Acting Overseer, eventually being fully legitimized as an independent. She continues writing fanfiction to this day, and she and her entire family sleeps in the Twin Chambers because Geraldine does not own a house, is not interested in buying one, and Millenhaal does not have a palace for its rulers.

: Ex-husband of Geraldine O'Leary. He and Geraldine married when they both lived in Corraghan. When the couple moved to the mainland, they had one son, Ulvar O'Leary. The couple eventually divorced after a heated disagreement on whether Star Force or Star Fleet was the better science fiction property, with Diarmaid advocating for Star Force. Diarmaid and Geraldine never remarried, and the two meet amicably every week over microwaved lasagna, formerly joined by their son before he disappeared. Diarmaid is editor of the Voentrotte Journal, a respected publication that publishes only the finest stories on internet discourse. The news outlet is only published in print.

: The only child of Geraldine and Diarmaid, Ulvar O'Leary is a business magnate who made his fortune in themed convenience stores that are notable for serving free alcohol to thirsty motorists. The corporation he founded, Ulvco, manages thousands of locations, all with unique themes chosen, usually, by Ulvar himself depending on how he feels that day. The easily charmed Millenhaalers flocked to them, becoming a staple of Millenhaalse life. He is currently worth, converted from Millenhaalse Rakken, 9.8 Billion USD. 4 years ago, he fled to a vault in the north, leaving his children on the doorstep of the Twin Chambers with his mother while his wife was on a spa trip. The vault he went to was empty when searched, although there is evidence of his presence there. The case is still open due to the importance of his person. Pre-disappearance, he was a noted advocate for Corraghanian independence, because "they have the finest booze around, I tell ya what", as he has stated in his own words.

: The wife of Ulvar. Marjana O'Leary (née Sturtevant), keeping in theme with the rest of the family she married into, is an odd character. She's the daughter of a Millenhaalse official from the previous government, who got rich nationalizing coal mines in the regions around the city of Delamak. Her father joined the revolution hoping to gain more money by exploiting the new government. Marjana, the ideologue she had become in college, shot her father 22 times on the steps of the Twin Chambers to raucous applause. This got the attention of young Ulvar, who was out drinking at a nearby bar. The pair married that night, and they had 3 children soon after marrying. Today, in her 30s, she continues her fervor against enemies of the revolution in the Twin Chambers, where she is the chairwoman of the aptly named Party to Further the Revolution, or the PFR, the successor to the LUM. It only has one seat in both of the Twin Chambers, the Upper being held by her, the lower being held by a non-notable adherent of her strict brand of Radical Rozenbergism.

: Nikela O'Leary is the oldest of the children, being 10 years of age. She takes after her father the most out of all the children, gaining capital through shrewd investments. She has been unable to claim her father's money as he has not legally been declared dead, so she has attended many court hearings to have that done. When interviewed on her advocacy for her father's death, she has given no reason except for the money, being relatively unbothered about the fact that she would kill a member of her family. She has made millions and millions through stocks, bonds, and futures through the guise of her uncle Njels, who is entitled to a portion of the wealth as long as he allows Nikela to utilize her business savvy independently. Called by many as the "Richest Child in the Universe", she has gained large amounts of fame. Nikela is a firm advocate for her family's continued low living conditions, because she does not wish to spend money on what she deems frivolous. Nikela is currently worth, converted, 79 Billion USD, eclipsing her father.

: The middle child of the O'Learies, Njels is a 9-year-old scientific prodigy with a special focus on astrophysics and chemical engineering. Njels was able to perform advanced mathematics by the age of 6, and has authored many scientific treatises on various topics. He has been described by many as a "smart cookie" or "a pleasure to have in class". At the age of 7, he had been promoted to studying in high school, but he had never once attended a class, relegating it to "unfun" status. When he graduated at the top of his class, he went to college at Jaener University, the most prestigious in Millenhaal, and graduated in a year. Njels serves as the director of the Millenhaalse Stellar Combine due to his massive advances in the field. He spends most of his days in the Chambers' library, and choosing to sleep there instead of parliament with his sisters, mother, and grandmother. Despite the impressive list of achievements Njels boasts, and his boundless love of science, his secret love is competitive poker. Njels plays in tournaments regularly and even won the Millenhaalse Poker Championship under the pseudonym Karel-Friderik Akkersdijk, where he stacked himself upon his friends to pass as an adult, as he does in the other tourneys he plays in. He has never been caught.

: Etel O'Leary is the youngest of the three, and she does not possess the extraordinary talent of her siblings, which often get her overlooked. And she likes it that way. Nobody is an O'Leary without something being blatantly and profoundly strange about them. Etel does not talk to anyone, nobody makes her, and anything she says is implied through body language, gesturing, or facial expression. Etel possesses psychic abilities which give her the power to do several interesting things. She can see the future, make herself aware of the goings-on in distant lands, and read people's minds, among other things. All of this would be disturbing to most people, however since she does not talk she has no way of making what she learns known. Except for the telepathy. She can do that. She chooses not to, but she does occasionally communicate with her cousin Gregor, the only person he trusts, due to his absolute averageness in stark contrast to the colorful cast of characters that make up her family. If it's important enough, Gregor will disguise the revelations Etel reveals to him as his own realizations and report them to Geraldine.

: Geraldine's brother and the namesake of his grandnephew, Njels Kierksvarb is a successful soccer player, or at least he was when he wasn't a middle aged man. He started his career in his youth, playing for some local clubs until being noticed by Garendag United scouts. In his 12 years of professional play, he was notable for being absolutely foul to anyone who would even dare to cross his path, hurling insults left and right. This reputation got him many brand deals, netting a significant source of income for the sports star, even as an older man now. Unfortunately this has put him in the crosshairs of a certain miserly, scheming, grandniece of his. He has one son, Gregor Kierksvarb. Njels never married, nor had a partner that had had a child. According to Njels, Gregor just "appeared" in his home as a newborn infant and Njels simply decided to take in the child. Njels and his sister remain close, and Njels has used his clout as a former sports star to bolster her and Maarkus Rozenberg's political pursuits shortly after the Millenhaalse revolution.

: Gregor "Greg" Kierksvarb is the "son" of Njels Kierksvarb. Greg is an ordinary office worker, who spends his days wasting away in a cubicle typing on keys. Greg is so ordinary, in fact, he has been overlooked by every single person he's ever met. Every day, he tries to convince himself that he's happy with himself, and every day he fails. Every day, he thinks of finally leaving his dead-end data entry desk job, but he never wills himself to. In the back of his mind, he knows that his father has enough money to support his failed thirtysomething of a son, but he can't afford to disappoint him even more than he already has. His nephew and niece have achieved more than he has in a third of his life. The funny thing is, nobody thinks he's a disappointment, he's generally loved by his family, it's all in his head. But it's real to him, and that's why he and Etel are together as often as they are, they have similar experience in being overshadowed, except Etel has taken it better. Maybe one day, Greg will muster the courage to leave his job and do something that makes him happy.
