The Republic of Leser is a gargantuan, cultured nation, remarkable for its aversion to nipples, free-roaming dinosaurs, and ubiquitous missile silos. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, cheerful population of 16.386 billion Leserians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The tiny, corrupt, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Industry, Education, and Administration. Income tax is unheard of.

Even God cannot save you in Leser, inter-species marriages are ignored by the government, census workers struggle to account for the rapidly increasing number of citizens to tabulate, and photographers can be found hiding behind the curtains in Leader's bedroom. Crime, especially youth-related, is moderate, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Leser's national animal is the byk, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
